OCD five alarm fire for sure.Hi all, is it just me or the grey mmcx connector go in a bit further than the red side? Does anyone's unit look the same with the stock cable?
Both sides are as tight as each other and it does not affect the sound, but my OCD is getting the better of me
In every other regard, likely no reason to panic.
I hope you have better luck with the Fiio cables than I did. I had 2 of them go back on me within 6 months. First one went bad on the source side. Second one went bad on the left IEM side.Full fiio silver. Lovely fit. These are LC-3.5D
Haha I think you are right, it's probably just manufacturing variation that is within tolerance. I do hold Sony/Made in Japan products to a higher standard though, oh well!OCD five alarm fire for sure.

Well so far the fiio hasn't broken unlike the oem sony cable...
These are mine from a few posts back...

Just curious did it break while you were detaching the cable or the connector just fell off during normal use? If the former then I will never detach it again lolWell so far the fiio hasn't broken unlike the oem sony cable...

Good Z1R test track for bass and layering...
Try this one! It has been my go to first track when a new baby comes.
Well, that sucks. The good news is that the Fiio cables are cheap. I liked mine while they worked. I just hope you have better luck than I did. I bought an after market PW Audio Anniversary cable to pair with my ier-z1rs that interestingly just arrived today.Well so far the fiio hasn't broken unlike the oem sony cable...

Just got my ier-z1rs today. Been listening for a few hours. Need a lot more time to give a fair review, especially since I was listening to my ZMF VC for a few hours before I put them on and I found that colors my impressions of other audio gear when listening to them critically.
I do have some initial impressions. The first thing I noticed was the bass response and the sound stage. Really like those 2 attributes a lot. The bass is clean and detailed. The sound stage is grand. The first tips I used were the Asla sednafitlight since they work well for me with the UM Mest. Will try other tips as well to see if they change the sound much. Surprisingly, the fit is decent and doesn't hurt as others have reported. I do notice a rather pronounced recession in the mids. Male vocals didn't sound good at all. Female vocals were better. I kept feeling the need to increase the volume to hear them like I am accustomed. Heard some brightness on cymbals at times, but it wasn't that bad. Just noticeable. Going to spend a lot more time over the next few days listening to them. If I had to pick right now, I prefer the UM Mest because the mids are not recessed. But, the bass of the z1rs is definitely better to my ear.

Okay. Did a few more hours of listening. First, I paired the z1r with Lotoo Paw S1. Then, I switched to Hugo 2. Still had the problem with the males vocals and then bass was a bit muddy. So, I decided to EQ them and then the magic occurred. I used the parametric EQ settings in autoeq for Sony IER-Z1R by Crinacle. Now, there is much better tonal balance in the sound and the glorious bass and large sound stage can shine. This is the best bass I've heard in an IEM. Before the EQ, I think I preferred the UM Mest. Now, I think the z1r has overtaken it. Still need to do more listening.

Can u share the EQ setting?
I have same feeling on the "muddy" bass with stock cable...good bass but not tight enough...
Absolutely. This cleans up the bass. It also puts the mids back into balance with the rest of the frequency response curve and tames the 6k hot spot for cymbals. Can u share the EQ setting?

I use the cable to tune the sound instead of the EQ...Absolutely. This cleans up the bass. It also puts the mids back into balance with the rest of the frequency response curve and tames the 6k hot spot for cymbals.
