Yes, I found the Xelastics to change the tone in a way that they took some of the brightness out of the sound, and smoothed it a little. Just at tiny but, but noticeable. Bass was slightly improved because we with larger ears get a better seal with them.
I ended up ordering ML after reading @gerelmx1986 post comparing to the Final E LL...those are usually the ones I use so I guess the ML size will be perfect.
I'm happy they arrived safely and quickly. If you ever need something else, let me know. It's my way of saying thank you for your help as well as to @Redcarmoose
Question of taste; I love the IER for everything it does differently than the MDR, so for me it would just be an expensive downgrade if the tips would actually narrow the gap. But if you like it, good job.

I must conclude that for me the L Xelastec is too big for use with Z1R (I can use it and like the sound but after an hour I experience pressure pains) but it is perfect for use with WF-1000XM3. First time I’ve encountered a tip in any situation that is too big for my ears

Yep. Just strange that the L is perfect with XM3. I’m guessing it has to do with angle of insertion, the Z1R is more restricted due to the cable whereas the XM3 having no cable can go in at any angle. Also the shape of the buds are different
