So I just demoed the Z1R, now I need to sell my Andromeda S :)

Tell me more, tell me more
Was it love at first sight?
Tell me more, tell me more
Did she put up a fight?

I am going steady with the Andro S. Why should I dump her for the Sony? Help me out please.

You shouldn’t. Different people, different taste. You need to try it yourself. Still deciding between Z1R & 64Audio N8, although I’ll leaning on Z1R.

Of course, I was just wondering what made you come to this decision. Were you not fully satisfied with the Andromeda S or did the IER-Z1R make you an offer you couldn't resist? What exactly did you find better than the S?

So I had a chance to demo these two gems side by side. Just some brief impressions:

2019-03-07 18.05.49.jpg

This first thing that struck me when I first put on the ZIR, the soundstage is huge, but in a way different from FW10000, FW10000 soundstage is more open and spaced-out with great spatial imaging, whereas the Z1R soundstage is more of expansive and grand. Bass is punchy and fun on the Z1R, whereas the FW10000 has large amount of bass details too but the bass note are much lighter and quicker. But for both the bass depth were not as great as some other iem like the re2000 (but maybe Z1R/FW10000 might need more burn in). The mids on the Z1R is more bodied and forward whereas for the FW10000 the vocals are more neutral and almost positioned in the same row as the other instruments. However, one thing I noticed on the Z1R is that sibilance is quite unbearable for male vocals with higher pitch (but yet somehow this isn't so obvious on female vocals).

I could see anyone liking either the FW10000 or Z1R only and totally hating on the other one, and there might be some like audionewbi liking both the Z1R/FW10000, because they are just two entirely different approach to how you can enjoy your music. But in head-fi where there are more general listeners to American pop/rock/classical music Z1R might be better received, but for Japanese market the FW10000 might have the upper hand.

I really have a hard time figuring out the mids on the IER-Z1R, every impression is setting more confusion for me... I have to get an audition when the European market is (at last) served :p

Did you demo the FW1000 at stereo? JEM or orchard store?

Andro S has more forward vocal, Z1R has warmer, fun and intimate sound. And Bass, I guess I'm a bass head.

Any indication when that will be?

Nope, I had a Parisian store telling me 2/3 weeks but it was 5 weeks ago so my hopes are not high...
