SONY IER-Z1R

I really want to get these because the descriptions make them sound like my preferred sound signature. I also really like MDR-Z1R and it might make a good addition to my collection. My only hesitation is that a lot of people are unhappy with the fit/comfort to the point of not owning a pair simply due to those reasons. What's the general consensus in this thread about that? Is it really as bad as people say?
Blind bought and they really do fit like a glove. Can easily wear them for hours on end, especially with xelastics. If you haven’t had issues with larger IEMs in the past (Solaris OG etc) I wouldn’t worry too much.

Never had any problems whatsoever, but apparently some do, so depends who you ask I guess. Agree with others that technically and soundwise, they are superb. Compared to the MDR-Z1R, they were a major step up for me.

my 2nd pair of xelastecs, this time M size from the trio-pack also got deformed permanently and became useless after two hot water "resets" so I may get smaller sizes (SS/S/MS)

can't live without them huh?
Maybe try shooting them an email regarding the deformity. They make it sound like we can reset it multiple times.

Mine also takes form after the inside of my ear canal and retains that shape. Why is that a problem ?

I think he meant that there's deformity at the nozzle and that causes it slipping out. Either that or too large size and it sticks too much to his ears.
Getting a smaller size might help with that.

Same here :) unless they bring out a mk2 or something. Otherwise, these are keepers
New versions aren't always better.

For example, HE1000s

That is true. Although in Sony’s case, their revisions have generally been improvements (Z7mk2, and their wireless range as an example). But yeah you’re right, a mk2 may not necessarily be better.

It’d be cool if they somehow made a more ergonomic version so more people could enjoy the Z1R’s without the fit issues.
