Smyth Research Realiser A16

Did everyone notice that his serial number is 174? I don't know if the headstand and 2U units share the same serial number sequence, but even if they do that's 174 units in 20 weeks.
I had to chuckle when I read your post. That’s because I’m Kickstarter backer #174 and I hope to receive my A16 in January, 2020. Per Kickstarter, backer #130 just received an A16 and backer #131 has received his pre-shipping email.

Anyone here trained a Harmony remote or similar remote (like Sevenhugs) to work with the A16? I’m finally at the breaking point with the amount of remotes I have to control my stuff and would like to pickup a remote like a Harmony or Sevenhugs. When it comes to the A16 I’d be fine with just the basics, like volume, power, the arrow keys, adjust +/-, PA button, menu button, and a few of the preset numbers. Pulling out the remote that shipped with the A16 is fine for more complex stuff like making PRIRs and that sort of stuff.

I’ve found a pretty well regarded 5 port HDMI switch that does 4K/60, Atmos, and all the HDR formats that would make setting things up a bit easier when it comes to setting up scenes as I wouldn’t need to worry about switching the A16 input since the switch works with the Harmony and I could run five devices to a single input on the A16 eliminating the need to really ever switch the A16 input.

Can subwoofers be recommended for the A16? Can someone recommend a specific model?
Implementation of Auro3D would be a really nice feature, especially for movie fans like me, because many Atmos movies sound better with Auro3D compared to the original Atmos track.....
While I don’t disagree with you, it looks like DTS certification precedes Auro 3D on the Smyth to do list.

Backer 131 got his A16s today. Delayed in customs and then by UPS.

If the sound level is compensated for distance (that should be the case for simulated speakers in a simulated surround system) , and the sound source is straight ahead, above, behind or below you, or anywhere between those, there's absolutely no mechanism that would allow you to tell the difference. If it is anywhere to the side, the difference in sound level between your left and right ear might give you a clue, but I strongly doubt that that works at all without training.

That looks like a dangerous dead zone or plane for humans:) Well, it is actually not that bad. There is still some way for us to perceive the distance of sound source on that plane without binaural cue, especially in close range, if you believe HRTF parallax....

Mine is #179. Come on Smyth Research, can you ship it before Lunar New Year? Say YES :)
I have the vertical unit and the front and back aluminium plates are 4mm thick each, it is really impressive. The whole A16 as a vertical unit is solid material. But it is of course only a box covering the inside with the exclusive "copyrighted" software...

It looks like that there will be some new finish designs for A16: https://scontent-sjc3-1.xx.fbcdn.ne...=0a44ef7fe2bc268b6b74c14958e25706&oe=5E72F05E

I asked them on Facebook if we could buy this foil and add it to our A16 and that is the way it is planned.

I do not understand why they posted it. This early with the shipping, the bug freeing hard work, the updates with the software, all the lists of unanswered questions...and yet they bothered to do a "water transfer printing trial" for what is something only stars are looking for : a lifting !!! I could do with one too...I mean a lifting.

Smyth sent me a power cord with a euro plug. Luckily it is a universal power supply and I had a spare power cord that works. Everything else seems fine, but if I did not have that spare power cord I'd have been really angry. Is it really so hard to send a US cord to a US address? If so, include both in every package.

They're not doing the printing themselves. Picking a pattern, and sending 3 case lids to a printer along with a few A16 they're shipping may have taken all of half an hour. If they even sell two or three A16s based on those designs, the benefit you as a customer gain from that in improved sustainability of the Smyth Research operation should be worth a lot more than the minuscule potential delay in shipping your unit. And it certainly doesn't take a programmer to pick a design or ship the parts, so there should add no delay whatsoever to their bug fixing or new features.
