SJY Audio Starry Night Planar Magnetic Headphone

Can anyone update how they compare to other headphones? Perhaps the HD650, Arya, Focal (Elegia perhaps?) or some others.
I believe the first ones were neutral these new ones I don't think any of us has one yet (Mine is the first order of the new series, but I am using slow shipping and in Canada). I saw someone say they are slightly v shaped based off the graph. I will say the first one (at least the almost final revision I got with the fixed peak) sounds exactly how I would expect neutral to sound. I don't think you can go wrong for this price though if you like that kind of tuning and want something boutique.

Oh but make sure your amp has the power since I need EF400 on high gain almost half way with 0 pre amp and I am a quiet listener (like 55-60db average when I measured with some 65 peaks from what I recall). Jeffrey says new one is slightly easier to drive but not by much

A topping L70 or better will drive them fairly well, but I have to agree that they do scale well with better amplification. My daily driver is a Soloist 3XP, and I recently started using a Schiit Audio Gjallarhorn speaker amp to drive my pair. My pair is also from the previous batch though.

The new batch is extremely pretty, is the current driver version v2 or v3? The website is a bit confusing saying:

"Starry Night V2 is now available for purchase. All color collections are limited

The Starry Night V2 has an upgraded headband with stronger clamp force and tighter adjustment yoke. The enclosure has been upgraded to MJF Nylon 12 for its strength and durability. The V3 driver with the new acoustic guide created a spacious surround sound. "

The last sentence is what i find confusing...
So do i maybe want to wait for the v3 version or is it a typo?

The cups and headband are V2, but the driver is the 3rd version. The last two versions of the driver were in the previous housing.

Wow, you are a QUIET listener! My range is 60-70Db's with peaks in the low 70's. I thought I was one of the quietest on here.

I already have random ear ringing sometimes, so I'm scared of listening at high volumes. Even now I faintly hear intermittent ringing from my left ear if I am in complete silence.

That would explain it. Sorry to hear.
I try to be careful as I want to keep this hobby going as long as possible.

I sadly have to downsize my rig for financial reasons and I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to compare the Starry Night to the ZMF Verite Closed?

It compares favorably to the Focal Stellia even with EQ to smooth out the Stellia. V2 is tuned a bit differently, but it should sound similar to V1 still. It won't be a downgrade, I would think from your headphones, more like a different sound. There is a graph for the V2 on the website, so check that to verify if you like that type of FR. There is a clear cut in the upper mids (probably for soundstage), and the treble looks like it may be slightly hot for some people (not peaky but I know some people are really sensitive) but is well extended alongside the bass. The graph reminds me of HifiMan, actually. I have my V2 in transit, so hopefully I get it soon.

I need to increase my headphone collection.

I need to increase my headphone collection.
Just buy a used luxury car that no longer drives but has working speakers and hook the speakers up to direct power. Easy TOTL speaker setup since the car has audio treatment already

- picture from sjyaudio website (notice the number scale difference from Crin's website I had to roughly adjust for that when drawing over the HE6SEV2 graph)
Me using my terrible drawing skills to then realize I read the graph on the SJY website wrong because I wasn't paying enough attention to the number scale vs Crin's site. If I put it to 100 digital volume I listen at what I would say is 20%-50% depending on song (fan favorite Hans Zimmer tracks are weirdly quiet compared to pop songs) on high gain (EF400), and that is loud enough for me with 0 pre amp. I'm not getting sibilance unless the track has it on purpose so far.

at 1:50 which voice is louder for you? With these headphones Floor is clearly louder, but I'm still hearing Henk just fine.

I would like more bass buildup here from 0:29 (I prefer more bass usually unless I am really trying to focus on other parts of the song).

from 35 seconds knocks are accurate for this test.

I still don't think there is any headphone in this price range that I know of that looks better (cup wise) and these sound good too. These headphones are really good for kpop/jpop actually if that is your thing because of the way the songs are mastered and all the upper mids and treble being up there (anime edition Starry Night when?). If someone wants me to test something let me know
