Hi, I've been wanting to purchase more headphones to add to my collection and rather than ask details about the sound, I thought that this method may get me responses faster and I can use it as reference for some future purchases.

I own all the headphones in my sig, except Stax, but one day...
triportsad.gif

I would describe both Audio-Technica's like this:

ATH-A700

Bass: 4/10
Mids: 5/10
Treble: 5/10
Detail: 6.5/10
Soundstage: 10/10

ATH-M50S

Bass: 7.5/10
Mids: 4.5/10
Treble: 5.5/10
Detail: 7/10
Soundstage: 3.5/10

I've heard a friend's HD800, I'd describe it like this:

HD800

Bass: 5/10
Mids: 5/10
Treble: 5/10
Detail: 10/10
Soundstage: 9/10

These are my experience with the previous mentioned headphones, I may not be right, but that's how they sound to my ears. Note that for bass, mids and treble, 5 is flat, which I'm using to describe the bias of sounds in headphones. Detail is self explanatory and soundstage refers to the size; I may be wrong, but the AD700 has a larger soundstage than the HD800, but the HD800 imaging is overall just better.

So, using both Audio-Technica's and the HD800 as reference, could anybody who own any of the following headphones provide me with info as the examples provided:

JVC HA-RX700
JVC HA-RX900
Sony MDR-V6
Sony MDR-ZX700
Sony MDR-XB700
Sennheiser HD201
Sennheiser HD555
Sennheiser HD600
AKG K701 (with proper amping :p)
Audio-Technica ATH-A700
Audio-Technica ATH-A900
Audio-Technica ATH-AD900
Denon AH-D2000
Denon AH-D5000
Beyerdynamic DT 880 (all variations)
Fostex T50-RP

Thanks, I look forward to your responses.

Every one have different perspective you know, you can just buy something out of score. In particularly your score system, since many people would disagree one way or the other. For instance what kinda mids is 5? a700 and HD800 has same quality pretty much in all aspect.....?

The HD800 is far superior in mids. But when I said 5, I'm talking about the balance. For example, if a pair of headphones is 5/5/5, it is flat. If it is 6/4/5, it has under-emphasized mids. This is quite important to me as I use different headphones for different situations.

That's a pretty weird way of ranking the quality of headphones, because it seems that the HD800s is ranked differently.

A good site with just this sort of user-generated headphone scoring system is headphonereviews.org.  It covers most all headphones and has many reviews by very experienced head-fiers.

Thanks
and @ Uncle Erik, I agree, most of my headphones go unamped though.

Frankly I think you are just being lazy.... first of all it's hard to find some one has most of them on their hands thus different system would lower the accuracy.
There are plenty of reviews on all the headphones. Besides the best way is to try out the headphone your self, buy some used ones and compare them urself and trade the one you don't wanna for something else, that's where the fun is
