Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

I've always been a Shure fan - both their IEMs and their cans.  But have to admit after the release of the 940 I'm now a bit gun-shy.  I'm waiting for:

[1] A few decent reviews & comparisons
[2] A chance to demo them myself next time I travel
[3] A few months at least for realistic 'street pricing' to hit

Given RRP for the 940s was at $300 and you could pick them up in the low $200s, I'd be surprised if the $700 RRP on the 1840's isn't significantly lower for street.

Front Row Electronics (Authorized dealer) has put up their Amazon listing for both the 1440 and 1840.
The 1840 is $700.
I'm interested, though I want comparisons with the others high ends.

Amazon has a great return policy for anyone who just read that review and thinks they might be right for them. Get them and give us some impressions.

These aren't directly sold or fulfilled by Amazon, so you won't have the great return policy. You have to look at the 3rd party's own return policy, which I highly doubt will be as good as Amazons.

VERY interesting review! (I'm surprised we actually have a legitimate review now.)

From that review, it seems that the SRH1840 is to the Hifiman HE500 as the Sennheiser HD800 is to the Audeze LCD-2, perhaps. In other words, more emphasis on treble and detail but overall similar levels of technical capability.

I just hope that it is not an open SRH940.

If by technical ability you mean resolution, soundstage, and imaging, then I don't see how the LCD-2 and HD 800 are on the same level.

I'm pretty sure there are people on head-fi who claim the LCD2 is as good as the HD800, although I'm certainly not one of them. I have no solid opinion either way though because I've only heard the LCD2 for 10 minutes and definitely didn't get a chance to A/B it. Anyway.

I wonder how the SRH1840 compares to the HD800/HD700. The review said it has more detail than a HE500 but didn't compare to any sennheiser or beyer. I never heard a grado PS500 so I don't know where that falls in the scale of sound quality.

There are lots of people who would say that the LCD-2 are superior to the HD800.  I think they're pretty much equal but cater to different tastes.

I've had a Shure SRH1840 prototype here since this past spring, and received a production version of it last week. It is a very impressive headphone, and I'll say more about it later. (It's the middle of the night here right now.)  ---- Judes post ofc.

Judeeee we want you to get back to these!
