To any 940 owners out there who are curious about the new 1540 pads adding more bass impact:

I am selling a pair so PM me if interested. I can assure that it adds significant lower body as I have tried it with my 1840... as have others

Well, I guess the pads of the srh1540 are thicker (that's how they look at the pics) . It's been a long time that I've been stuffing cups of my srh940 with piece of rope , for a more balanced sound (more bass, less aggressive treble). See my mod, in my review of the head gear section.
Otherwise I'm glad that shure support this "out of the box",  with their newer model.

I think it's more than the pads just being thicker. It's made of different material and gives the sound a dramatic increase in bass, more than just stuffing cotton balls or rope under the stock velour pads. At least it's like that with my 1840... not sure about the 940. I would guess that it would have the same effect and be more beneficial to the 940 since it is much brighter than the 1840. Just my opinion...

Imho, it's not a coincidence if shure decided to create thicker pads for the srh1540.
But  I imagine there's more regarding the improvements.

hey guys an "idiot/noob" friend of mine got his hand on some $$ and he want to buy a gaming headphone, i told him buy SRH-940 cause they will satisfy you on both gaming/music!!

can you please write something so he get convinced that Skullcandy, Astro, Razer might be worth the same price, yet he is paying for "brand/name" rather than paying for quality

please tell him that the SRH-940 is better and can do the gaming sound way better.

why he does't listen to me? we all have this one/two friends who thing you are wrong because you are not a stranger :P

If you need a closed-back headphone for gaming, the SRH940's expansive soundstage, excellent instrument separation, and great imaging all contribute to a wonderful gaming headphone. They may not have the best bass for rumbling explosions, but they can help you listen to the fine details of your surroundings in-game, which is something the other headphones really lack.

The SRH940 is still my top pick for rock music too.

Depends.
I never had mine crack or fail in 1year+ of use. But I baby my headphones and I also don't have a round-ish head which it seems it's one of the main reason these crack (i.e. over-extension when taking them off or putting them on.

Hi, I have a srh940 and am wondering how long do these last without cracking issues with the left/right wing? Can they make it to 2+ years? And how long do you stretch the wings? Many thanks to all of you!!

Just put them carefully in your head, avoid as much as possible to stretch the headband.
And if you find them uncomfy, this increase the probably of breaking them faster (big head --> more stretching of headband --->  uncomfy & cracking faster).

If you notice small cracks : put some super glue asap, to limit the spreading.
