Shure SRH 940 impression and support thread

Huh? I thought this is one of the more balanced phones I ever listened to. Brightness is the price for details. 
"bassless?" Baseless!

Sorry, well during that time I came fresh from a HD202 which were quite bassheavy. Now using the HD558 and having a better audio sense I actually like the bass on them, tight, solid and neutral.

Also you could buy a Beyer DT770 headband to replace the one on the SRH940, did it for my friend and he is happy now having it broken twice before.

Choose the one you find at a better price.
To my ears, the SRH1840s were VERY similarly sounding to the HD600s but with better instrument separation. Still $450+ versus $300... yep, $300 won... (i.e. Senns HD600s)

Ha ha, it's seem that some people are neither with the sr840, nor the srh940 sensitive to the treble.
My out of the box with srh940, was painful, with an insidious treble spike out of my xonar stx.
So far the typical complain for the srh940 is the  bass, where's the bass ... or alike.

Well I mentioned the SRH1840, not the SRH840. And even when I tried them unamped i still loved their sound.

Thank you for sharing. Interesting alternative. Personally my headband is still in great shape but my head size is small.

Well i can tell you that i had to tear apart the headband using various pliars, took quite a while, a full day of tearing since my tooks were so tiny and i didnt want to break or unsolder the wire connectors. The first version i used springs and a few seperate pieces of plastic for the arm but it was very fragile and kept falling apart under daily stresses. I took them back and replaced the flimsy construction with lego and some hard keychain wires to use as spacers to ensure the earcup is dead centre and to tighten everything together. Not had a problem till this day.

Very happy I repurchased these, love the sound. First day I felt it was a bit harsh but it calmed down pretty quick.

OMG I really really want to do that to my SRH940. The only complaint I had about 940 was it's shouty sound and build quality, and doing this will get rid of the headband cracking and improve comfort!

I just ordered Shure SRH 940. But the price in this store is very low (230$). I'm afraid it can be fake. Can u tell me, how can i recognize a fake in this headphone? Where to look?

I'm not sure if anyone actually makes fake shures o.o

and @kimvictor Also the bass would increase due to the higher and more even clamping force
