Well, Cat Stevens can't really be called modal music in anyway, nor jazz with melodically rich bass improvisation. It's tonal pop, which is simple in melodic structure and "easy to guess". Usually there are quite a few tracks too. "Hearing upper harmonics better" unfortunately didn't answer my question... But, I'll probably find out some day myself. Thanks for trying :)

wELL...... someone saying the 840 is better than the 940..... would also say the Ultrasone Edition 8 is better than the Edition 10.

Pretty sure they'd say W1000X is better than A2000X as well........ these people are all from bizarro updside-down land where cats can talk and rain rabbits wear suits... I've been there!!

I'm gonna slap a 10 dollar tweeter in a shiny enclosure and sell it for 500 dollars.  You guys are gonna go bananas at the detail and how easily you can hear every cymbal.

Hah, good one.

Given that 15usd earbuds cost 30 cents to manufacture, that wouldn't be too far off percentage wise

Though can't comment on this myself, regarding the 940. The 840, however, was a **** headphone. The "hidden midrange" made some of my music really monotonic and boring. Thought it even had a bit of this "treble-boost-detail". Bass was off the wall, really bananas! Monotonic in every way compared to my trusty ol' K272HD

I'm listening to my ksc-75's right now and I just turned on the "treble boost" EQ on my ipod.  OMG!  It sounds exactly like the HD800 now!

Easy for you to say! You're running them off your EHHA! ... Durr.

1) You are off topic again, as usual.
2) Those of us who have a respect for God and various religions know exactly what OMG means, and it's indicative of very bad character.

I'm disappointed that there's people saying the 840 is better than the 940.

Now I feel like avoiding the 940, and it was the only Shure product I've heard that really impressed me.

Yeah, don't go with the flow. Just enjoy them.

This is the problem with the community, people just don't sit down and listen to some damn music and appreciate what they have

While I may not agree with Tyll's opinion of the 840 vs the 940, Tyll is very highly respected and I trust his assessments implicitly because of all the work he's put in and the methods he uses. Tyll has earned his respect. Again, what are your credentials? Also, you still have failed to mention what your rig consists of. hile I may not agree with Tyll's opinion of the 840 vs the 940, Tyll is very highly respected and I trust his assessments implicitly because of all the work he's put in and the methods he uses. I know that's why I feel so disappointed now and feel like avoiding every Shure product ever.

Are you talking to me? I posted at least twice that I listened to each one for around 10 minutes side by side, 840 first and 940 second.

I wouldn't be disappointed. The two cans are cut from a similar thread and have similar construction. They are just voiced differently. There are several charts around that show it. Some will prefer the 840 while others the 940.
