Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Congrats! :beerchug:

That price is amazing when you consider you could easily pay twice that for DAPs that don't sound as good, only come with a minimal OS and/or have no streaming capabilities.
On top of that its brand new unopened so its unbeatable value and it comes with aptx as well so so listening to Bluetooth/wireless headphones on the go is becoming a reality for me

Would like to connect the SE846 to an APTX-HD Bluetooth to be used with my LG V30+.
Currently my SE846 sounds non impressive with the APTX Westone Bluetooth Cable .

Current (and near future) options:
- Radsone Earstudio (expected in December) - ~14 hours battery life, both balanced and single ended connectivity - most impressive specifications
- Bluewave Get (available soon) - ~5 hours battery life, single ended connectivity
- Astell & Kern XB10 (available) - ~5 hours battery life, both balanced and single ended connectivity
- FiiO BTR3 (in about 6 months) - ~8 hours battery life, single ended connectivity (may support LDAC as well)

Me, I am waiting for the Earstudio, to be used with a short MMCX balanced cable

Thanks

They're going to sound like crap With any Bluetooth module you try to use. Wired is the only way to go.

Thanks
The Eastudio is 24bit aptx hd, supported by 2, 24 bits DACs and (unknown) amps.

Currently I use my Westone bt with the new Fiio F9 earbuds (28 ohm) with more than reasonable SQ. Will surely upgrade them with aptx hd.
I will report back upon receiving the atpx hd gadget, on how it is with my se846 as well as the new Fiio F9 Pro.
On a daily basis, at work (or out of home) I listen to the F9 via bt. At home my se846 is connected to the Mojo Chord, with bass enhancemnt from the Arrow 5TX amp, listening to Tidal hifi at bit perfect mode via UAPP.

Thanks again for the clarifications above.

After having sold mine then tried others I've just bought another pair as I can't find anything which betters them!

So without having to trawl through pages and pages of posts, what's the optimum mod list sitting at now? Will also be looking to get a balanced cable for them...

I am getting a dark, black, silent, non-hiss background with my SE846s on my Lotoo Paw Gold Diana in low gain. With the red Knowles damper mod it sounds awesome.
This is a brighter DAP, so the treble is extending as it should.

PM me. I can send you two Reds and two greens, but I am out of the Browns. If you go to the thread for se846 filter mod, you will see pictures of my mod from the first step through to the end of what it looks like.

Perfect, I really should make time to read through the thread!

Brown/Red/Green in the basket...

Just need to do some research on cable now and retire my Superbax!

Knowles acoustic dampers are a great improvement.

Digikey.com has them I believe. There are pictures I posted in the se846 filter mod thread that shows how I did it with the existing plastic filters and the Knowles acoustic dampers. The more the resistance, the darker the sound. However, treble extension is better with all of the dampers I tried from Knowles than stock.

Ordered from Mouser. Did you try Grey / White?

Who's running balanced? Cable used? copper/silver preference? I'm 95% rock with a little pop/dance etc in between. Zero classical/orchestra etc etc!
