If I couldn't stand the 530's (I think I'm an ety/re0 kinda guy), would I be right in guessing there is little hope I'll enjoy the 535? {I apologize if the answer to that is elsewhere in the thread, I just can't easily read 96 pages}

For the most part yes.  EricP  Liked the 535 but not the 530.  Most impressions say they are 90-95% similar.  /Shrug.

yes. They actually appear warmer than 530s so even though the upper mids and top are more evened out then the 530, they're probably not for you.

I have yet to see any comparison saying they are 90-95% similar.  And if they were i would not like them just like I didn't care too much for SE530.

My ears tell me there is a good 10-20% improvement in treble, overall clarity and soundstage with SE535.  Bass is tighter and more controlled but slightly less.

My SE535s are shipped and here, but I can't get them because my dorm's mail service is currently sorting all the packages. This is torture...

@Young Spade

I noticed you had  the Tomahawk, and iBasso T4 on your profile. Would you say they help the SE535s sound better? I've read in multiple threads that the SE535s are real easy to run anyway, making amps unnecessary. But I'd like to hear your input.

I finally received my SE535s from the center desk after waiting a painful 4 hours. I'm relieved to say that I have had no fit issues as others have been experiencing. The box was a lot smaller and heavier than I expected. The phones themselves are gorgeous. Never seen such delicate yet sturdy looking IEMs in my life.

I don't know if they get better after burn-in, but I'm pretty satisfied with what I hear out of the box. I finally understand what people were talking about. The smooth mids, sparkly highs, and accurate lows that I've been missing out on until now are finally within my grasp of comprehension.

One issue that I am experiencing is the memory wire straitening out which I'm sure will disappear with use. I consider myself to be a closet bass-head but the SE535s satisfy my needs. It my not boom, but it's accurate and definitely present. People saying that the SE535s don't have bass just listen music to have their brains rattled.

Listening to them while I type this....

True about the diminished returns with hifi audio, but I did own both the SE310s and SE530s/SE535s at the same time and there was a big difference in SQ between the SE530/535s and the SE310s. The SE310s sounded really nice, but after I popped in one of the other two, I just couldn't listen to the SE310s.

This mirrors my experience. I tried the SE310 and the SE4xx model at that time and I couldn't take them personally. But the SE530 is another level. I found it hard to believe that they would make the sound signature so different across their lines. That may have changed with the newer line and I would hope so.

Ok, if I say 80-90% similar that jives w/ your numbers.  I mean really, are you expecting an exact number?

No, I'm expecting a realistic assessment so other potential buyers can make a good decision when shelling out this kind of money.

OK, how about you post a number and I'll right a page on how you are wrong.  Numbers are subjective.  I haven't read anyone say the 535 is a completely different phone from the 530.  Are you seriously saying my 5-10% discrepancy from yours is me painting an unrealistic picture of the 535?  I think you are being a bit silly now.

No, that is not it at all.  SE535 is NOT a completely different IEM than SE530 but it DIRECTLY addressed pretty much everyone's complaints with SE530.  To say SE530 is 95% of what SE535 is is a bit silly and I would bet that Shure would also say...."why bother for a 5% improvement" which would probably be undiscernable to most ears.  The difference betwen SE530 and SE535 is easily discernable which would at least put it above a 10% improvement.  Probably 15-20% to most.

Shure is not shlock company trying to make a buck.  They have been around more than anyone else making IEM's so I value their integrity in differentiating products which they offer.  My opinion has validity since I owned SE530 for about 2 years and now SE535 for almost 6 months.

I found W3 EASILY better than SE530 but I now find SE535 a slight step above W3 so the change between SE530 and SE535 is surely identifiable.  Plus you are going off hearsay where I have actually owned the products.

I bet there are some that wont prefer the 535. They're different. 535 is smoother and sounds more extended due to it. Lost a lower treble emphasis amd a bit of upper mids. I actually think the mids sound warmer while the bass is tighter. They're a bit too warm for me now on audition but I'd probably get used to it if I used them daily. Nothing's perfect and they have a natural texture and harmonic about them.
