This is my first estat amp. So, I'm afraid I couldn't tell you how it compares to other ones. Seems really great to me, especially since I can boost the bass on the SR-007A with it. Also, it allows me to rub estat and regular headphones... oh, and IEMs as well. It's truly an all-in-one amp, which is sick.
Thats why I thought about getting it, a true all in one solution. However I already have solid state stuff, I got an XLR switcher so I just turn the knob to go between multiple amps. The Stax 717 delivers a good amount of power and it was like 15% the price of a Phantom.

Hey, as long as you like your setup, that's all that matters. I didn't have a desktop amp at the time when I got the Phantom, so its ability to power literally everything was a no-brainer for me. Also, IEMatch, XBass and XSpace are all very useful. Oh, and tubes when I feel like smoothing things out. To accomplish all of that separately I'd need an E-Stat amp, a Tube amp, a solid state amp, and an IEM amp from iFi. Then I'd have to mess around with connections from my DAC every time I wanted to switch. The Phantom is extremely useful for my use case. A lot of people whined about the 2-tone, but I like it quite a bit.
Here is how my set up is sitting currently. Not too much change. New E-stat amp bought from the classifieds here courtesy of @jjshin23 (KGGG built by soren brix.) Will report back about the amp in the Stax thread at some point.

Old school..think Varese, Pierre Henry,....not to be confused with the current popular EM or EDM. In Homage to Edgar Varese.
The link has a cross section of different experiments and realizations mostly from the 80s. https://robertburns1.bandcamp.com/
