I wanted to post a big THANK YOU post for Monoprice, for being who they are and bringing some awesome audio products to the market. My first endeavor with them was a set of M1070 cans ($225 sale), which I liked, but felt there was more to be had from the planar tech, so about 6 months later I grabbed a set of M1570 ($399 sale). These gave me what the M1070 was lacking, and were happy with them, after getting a decent EQ,
But I knew I wanted more, and started exploring other tech, and so AMT and ribbons got on my radar. I wasn't 100% sold on the SR1a ear speakers. Later in 2023 I decided to address my lack of speakers in my living room, since I live alone, and use my headphones. Bit of an issue when I have company, however. And I did not want to dig out my Yamaha RX-V863 amp and stick that on my desk to drive some Infinity Primus 150 sats, and drag out my DIY sub. (Which I adore to death, but it's a big heavy 25" plywood cube) So I nailed another Monoprice sale, and got a set of active MTM-100 sats (which I see that is used by Swissonic for a set of MTM nearfield monitors) ($225) and a 12" 150w subwoofer ($65). I entertained Thanksgiving, and everyone enjoyed the sound system.
I took advantage of the last offering of the Cavalli Liquid Platinum amp ($330), which I am very glad I did. I had that amp earmarked, along with a Little Dot Mark III SE. It is an impressive headphone amp, with the Cavalli House signature, and the coupled tube balanced design gets the most out of the tubes and still be a hybrid system.
Then this month, I was looking at Monoprice for my favorites list, and saw the AMT on sale for $599, and I noted that was the cheapest I've ever seen them offered as new. So I looked at the product page again, that I know intimately, and noted the coupon alert mentioned that it was eligible for EXTRA30. My jaw dropped, added to my cart, and yep, confirmed the final price of $419.99. Used Paypal to pay for it using Pay-In-4, and my longtime desire to audition AMT ribbons became a reality. And I discovered that the ribbons do everything I thought they would do, which is offer amazing dynamics, effortless detail and tonal accuracy across the full FR. Except for this small issue of the stock tuning being uber flat. But after a week I have the EQ all sorted out, thanks to people here and projects like AutoEQ. So now I get to own a set of TOTL headphones at a bargain, which is the creed of Monoprice's sales model.
I started this hobby about 30 years ago, and my first two quality headphones are the HD-580 Precisions, and the Sony MDR-SA5000 flagships. My dream was to get a set of headphones that combined the strengths of both. I now am wearing that headphone, driven by an incredible amplifier.
So, thank you Monoprice for making this possible.
