When I had the full TT setup years ago, it was VPI + Grado MM all the way.

Never even managed to hear a Rega.
It's my first foray back into vinyl in probably 30 years. I've got an old Dual sitting in storage somewhere, but a friend of mine was moving and didn't want to worry about shipping this back to Denver, so gave me a screaming deal on it. So now I guess my weekends are going to be devoted to bargain bin hunting again....

Kinda sad to read your final sentence. I've had ~1,500 LPs stored in boxes here since '91. No idea what to do with them now...

Sell them at a yard sale for $5/ea.

I have already bought about 8 new records so far (several in shipping), and I still have about a hundred in storage (gonna dig them out this weekend). But there are so many used record shops, used book stores, and other "thrift" stores that bargain hunting is half the fun! Plus, I can pick up some "burner" albums to practice my record cleaning skills!

Well, you got me there...I didn't even know Sansui made speakers.
I was referring to my vintage Sansui amps but Sansui did make some gorgeous speakers.

When I stationed at George AFB (79-81) and living in the dorms I used to go head-to-head with my dorm neighbor across field from me. He had Sansui speakers, I had Pioneer's HMB speakers. We'd place our speakers on the balcony and jam out. Sorry don't remember specific model numbers as that was 44 years ago

But those were the good old days with Japanese stereo equipment, especially with Sansui and Pioneer (amongst others) in the late 70s

Only wise men like us live through the 70s. :)

Then in 1979, Pioneer introduced the totally off-the-charts SX-1980, which raised the bar to 270 watts RMS per channel, 20–20kHz, at .03% THD. It weighed a ridiculous 80 lbs. It was 20 inches deep. It wouldn’t fit in any sane person’s entertainment furniture.

Yes only 1 more headphone is all I need. Something detailed , open and spacious. Looking into streamers next but want to hear in my system to hear the improvements first. Good thing my local dealer lends out equipment to customers

Brings a tear to my eye. Man, Pioneer made some great looking receivers and amps. As did Sansui

I never owned any high end their high-end stuff as it was too rich for my blood even back then, but I had plenty of friends who did. A lot of them though got their stuff when they were stationed in Japan, mainly Okinawa. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to visit Japan or get stationed there. Would have love it. Would have gone broke

Japanese speakers sound great. I heard these Diatones at a friend's place and it sounded better than vintage Yamaha NS1000 speakers.

(a) One has to love the mirror imaging!!
(b) “Honey? Which sounds better? Tweeters in, tweeters out?” …

All that I have left now of vintage gear is this monster Kenwood KA-3300D. 150 rms watts per channel into 8 ohms.

It was fun listening to HD800 with this Sansui au-alpha 907mr. I miss this amp. :)
