i am sorry but these are the ugliest above 1k headphones i ever have seen. but i hope they sound great
The original diana came in a color that literally made it look like a nurse's shoe (brownish/taupe - even came with a toiletry bag). The black looks decent, but I agree, not the prettiest thing out there. Abyss is known for build quality and pretty whacky looking headphones. You love 'em or you hate 'em; both sonically and visually.

Hello there!

The sound signatures are quite different, I would say the Dianas have better bass in almost every aspect (impact, detail, loudness, etc.), I use the Lokius (my EQ) to add midrange to my preference, but I find myself moving each of those knobs to accommodate the recording - not the headphone.

The Dianas are the only headphones in which I didn't immediately revert to my senns - something I can not say bout any of the other headphones in my signature...

The Sennheisers are still better for certain recordings, usually dominated by acoustic guitar, vocal harmonies, etc (think America, some Eagles, etc.)

As a daily driver, the Dianas handle almost every genre I throw at them with such engaging sound - I barely think about the senns - even with them staring at me  Certainly the best planar I own. Side note, they do seem to require more power than the HD800S; with the Lyr I am nearly at 3:00 on the knob for quieter recordings.
Thanks a lot for the answer!
Actually, now I am even more torn about which to choose, this sounds good...Diana or Final :)

EDIT: Consider yourself "guilty" for making me change the final order (I was literally one click away from ordering Final D8000). I have been thinking of Lokius for a while but never decided that I really need EQ for any of the headphones I have. Perhaps now it will be time to make V2 even more fun! I am so excited. They are on the way already, hopefully on Monday with me :)

Cheers!

When listening via solid-state h/p/a (no heresy! there are excellent ones!) …

… low-impedance (<= 100 ohms) h/p have been going to the left, high-impedance (> 100 ohms) have been going to the right. Fantastic turn of events (🤣😖).

I'm a big fan of silver gears. If I'm not mistaken, this is several chains on your desk? Do you find yourself using all of them? Do you use different things for different jobs?

Eitr via coax to Bifrost to Jot2 via XLR.
Or, Bifrost to Loki via RCA, and on to the Jot2, with the SYS switching the Vali 2 (operating as a tube buffer) in or out of the RCA paths.

That looks Schiity!

Nice looking Tube. I've got a Vali 2+ and am interested in what tube you are running and if you think it was a good step up from the stock tube?
The tube in that pic is an old Sylvania 6SN7GTB. It's not bad, for a cheap tube.

The beauty is in the engineering brutalism - the solid machined frame, the golden planar driver hidden beneath, the Fibonacci spiral...
the extremely painfull way they feel on your head

I will have to live with this new guilt!

Please report back when you get some impressions/time with them! The Lokius was pivotal for me in reducing the 6K spike in the Senns, which meant I could increase their overall volume; you get the picture... Adding some bass in the analog stage is also nice, I understand software-based EQ will always be more efficient/surgical, but I love my knobs

Comfy for me - they include a super soft pad to help the band, might even rival the senns - the HD800S however have the unique characteristic of not touching a single part of my ear.
