Should I keep K701s or AD700s?

Hi guys I've just bought both the DT990 250 ohms and AKG K701 from another guy at pretty much half price, at least compared to the prices in Singapore. I also own an AD700 and with my current setup ( Crossroads Edge Amp ) the differences between both the AD700 and the K701 are quite subtle, though they do exist. The AD700 (imo) gives a slightly more coloured sound, at least when doing female vocals, while the K701 is more 'realistic'. Most parts of the song sound kind of the same however, when alternating between both headphones. From what I've read in the forums I'm thinking it's my amp that does not bring out the full strengths of the K701. So...now I'm in a dilemma, while I am definitely keeping the 990s due to their entirely different sound signature ( I like strong distinct bass ) I'm not too sure about the K701. Should I resell either the K701 or the Ad700? Or should I just keep both til I can afford a better amp...

In terms of amps, will a Zero DAC be enough to showcase a significant difference between the K701 and AD700s? How about the Little DOT MKII and MKIII? If I'm able to spend less than 150 bucks for a significant upgrade in sound I would be willing to take the plunge :)

Really depends on how much you can get for the K701. - But I would keep the K701, sell the ad700, and get a good amp and DAC when you can affort it.

But really depends..

okay sweet i shall consider what you guys said....btw any ideas on the Zero DAC?

Sorry I don't know much about that Dac..but you should also consider the e7+e9 combo..There are a lot of threads popping up about them and there have been many k701 owners who are satisfied by them Btw. people have said that the Little Dot MkIII has good synergy with the 701s. Hope that helps

If you think the difference it too small to justify the price, congratulations, you are temporary cured from upgrade-itius.

You should leave now while you still have the chance.

Lol wise words

trueee, but once I get the urge to buy anything I won't be able to get it out of my mind until I actually spend some money :X    Anyway the E7+E9 combo sounds interesting, gonna wait for more news to surface. The MKIII is more expensive than both the E7 and E9 combined right? I understand that being a tube amp it adds more warmth to the sound, but what exactly does this mean? Means the mids are fuller and the treble is not as bright?

The 701s and 990s are not exactly the same, but share many of the same qualities.  The AD700s will provide you with a better alternative when you in the mood for something different.

I dunno, I owned both the K701 and DT990s, and felt I no longer had a need for the K701 and sold them. They are both bright and have a spacious soundstage, but the 990s have a more musical sound (fun), while the K701 is analytical. The bass of the 990s is a lot more present than the K701s.

The K701 is an improvement over the AD700 in practically every way, IMHO.
