Hi guys I've just bought both the DT990 250 ohms and AKG K701 from another guy at pretty much half price, at least compared to the prices in Singapore. I also own an AD700 and with my current setup ( Crossroads Edge Amp ) the differences between both the AD700 and the K701 are quite subtle, though they do exist. The AD700 (imo) gives a slightly more coloured sound, at least when doing female vocals, while the K701 is more 'realistic'. Most parts of the song sound kind of the same however, when alternating between both headphones. From what I've read in the forums I'm thinking it's my amp that does not bring out the full strengths of the K701. So...now I'm in a dilemma, while I am definitely keeping the 990s due to their entirely different sound signature ( I like strong distinct bass ) I'm not too sure about the K701. Should I resell either the K701 or the Ad700? Or should I just keep both til I can afford a better amp...
In terms of amps, will a Zero DAC be enough to showcase a significant difference between the K701 and AD700s? How about the Little DOT MKII and MKIII? If I'm able to spend less than 150 bucks for a significant upgrade in sound I would be willing to take the plunge
