Shanling Q1 - Retro-Styled Portable Hi-Fi Music Player

Is it technically possible to add aptx hd and ll to Q1 through firmware update?
Will it happen? Aptx, sbc and AAC are all lossy. LDAC BT headphone is expensive. Still waiting for Shanling MW200.
Decoding aptX is not free for manufacturers, only encoding is. Qualcom wants some fees for decoders, so it is a business decision if a device should be able only to transmit (encode) aptX, like the Q1 does or receive it (decode), too.

If you want only receive aptX in all its flavours, there are the Shanling UP2 and UP4, which play all codecs except aptX Adaptive.

Dear @Shanling
I have installed latest FW on my Q1 and I have an issue. New FW version cuts out last few seconds of each song. Tried factory reset but the problem is still there.
Here's comparison: my smartphones's foobar2000 and Q1, same file, Q1 cuts out lasts seconds and goes to the next song:

@Shanling
While I am waiting for my baby blue Q1 to arrive, I noticed there are two USB drivers available on the download pages : a Q1 USB driver with 2018 date and a general Shanling USB driver with a 2020 date. Both seem to have the same file content and a Chinese only manual. The 2020 driver failed to install on my Win10 PC while the UP4 was connected, and I haven't tried the Q1 driver so far. Is ther any difference between them?

My main reason to buy a Q1 is not the need for a player but for a LDAC transmitter for my PCs and laptops. Beyond Android smartphones, there are only a few bluetooth DAPs as LDAC transmitters on the market, no standalone SPDIF to bluetooth transmitters, like for aptX LL and HD.

These drivers are identical, doesn't matter which one you install.

UP4 doesn't use these drivers, UP4 works with basic Windows drivers.

Can you please tell me what error you got while trying to install drivers?

Not possible to add aptXHD.

I'm unable to replicate this on my Q1.

Is it happening to all your files? To all different format of files?
And from your image, I see it also shows track as shorter?

All bluetooth codecs are lossy including AptX HD and Sony's LDAC including HQ. If you are going for the best bluetooth audio quality then LDAC is the best option.

@Shanling I have rolled back to 1.2. The time is still displayed wrong, but songs are not cut out this time - sync is perfect.
I'll try reformatting microSD as well to check it.

Reformatting card did not help. Both FW 1.2 and 1.3 show too short song time, FW 1.3 cuts last 1-2 seconds and goes to next song.
I stick with 1.2 now with flawless gapless.

I'd like to report a small bug, it was already in v1.2, and it's still there with v1.3:
When i listen to the album till the end with screen turned off, after playback stops and i turn the screen back on, there is always HR symbol on the main screen, as if my files are of high resolution. It happens both with flac and mp3, and none of files i have are true HR.
And if i start playback again, the symbol goes away.

Are you seeing such issue of cut out last second on all your files? Please which format are you using?

Noted.

It works now. Install is complete, but I have no Q1 yet to test further. Shipping advances much slower than last time with the UP4 (from the same seller). After eight days, it is still in China.

With current World events, there are some significant problems in international shipping.

Hi. Dear @Shanling !
Found one serious problem for me (with Q1): SynkLink cannot working with connected MTW 100. When i connect my MTW 100 to Q1, and then trying to connect with SyncLink on smartphone - earbuds are disconnecting.
In other way - when SynkLink connected - Q1 says to turn off SyncLink to connect an earbuds.
With Hiby link on M2s this functionality working well, any problems at all. I hope, that is not a hardware problem of Q1 and you can solve it with software update soon.

Are you seeing such issue of cut out last second on all your files? Please which format are you using?

@Shanling - I am also seeing this issue on my Q1 after updating to V1.3 but it is more than just a second or two but significant chunks of tracks. For example, one track (FLAC 96 kHz 24-bit encoded with ffmpeg) shows as 2:25 on the Q1 with firmware 1.3 but on other players (e.g. VLC) it shows the correct duration of 2:39. Other tracks in the albums are similarly affected. I will also note that my M0 running the older 3.2 firmware does not exhibit this issue and shows the correct length (I have not tried 3.3 yet with it yet). After downgrading the Q1 back to firmware 1.2, I can confirm bachankas' observation that it is still showing the wrong duration but at least playing until the end of the track - so until there is a fix I probably need to continue using 1.2.

A piece of general feedback is that many tracks don't show the embedded album artwork (on both the Q1 and M0) - presumably because of file size. What is the limit? Can it be increased?

I had almost 9,000 songs on my M0 and artwork displayed for every song. All my artwork is 400 x 400, 72 DPI and standard not progressive jpg. Every DAP I have owned handles standard jpg fine but progressive seems to be hit or miss.

Smaller files typically work fine for me too, but hi-res audio files can include huge images (even PNG) by default. If I am editing metadata to add missing images from external sources or reduce pre-existing, I typically try to reduce to 1000x1000 jpg for the sake of other devices with larger/high-dpi screens. It would be helpful to know the exact limits for file size or resolution to fix those that wont display.
