So, is the line out function a true line out? When it is turned on, it bypasses the amp in the Q1?

I am looking to run it as a line out from the 3.5mm to Little Dot +1.

thanks

To quote @Shanling from the M0 thread:
Lineout and headphone output are identical, since we are using combined DAC/AMP Sabre chip.

Same will apply to the Q1 as it is the same chip.

No, it's not "true line-out" in audiophile terms, it still uses amplification of ESS ES9218p.

Can you run it with your Little Dot amp? Yes, should be without any problems, because output on Q1 isn't some ultra-powerful one.

I gotta say, I'm impressed with the battery life on this little device. I took it out for a walk today that lasted 2hrs11min. Volume was set at 55 on High Gain and I listened to 41min of 96/24 ALAC and 90min of 44.1/24 ALAC and the screen was not used at all. Battery life went down from 97%-86%, so at that rate you would get about 19 hours of battery. I know that would change depending on screen usage, file type, volume and gain, but this is still great performance.

Is there any way to tell what CODEC (AptX, SBC, etc) is actually being used? I'm reviewing some headphones, and I can't tell if the headphones AptX mode actually works or not.

Currently used codec is displayed in status bar next to the battery icon, there you will see either LDAC/aptX/AAC. If there is just BT icon, it means device runs on SBC(can also happen if you have incorrectly set BT quality in Q1's setting)

Thanks. That lines up with another test transmitter - the headphones claim AptX but both fall back to SBC.

Is it possible to turn off "back to menu" gesture (swipe up from bottom edge)? With my rather large fingers it is common that I go mabk to main menu during browsing library or folders.

After eight and a half weeks my Q1 order arrived. I updated it to fw 1.3, the Shanling Windows drivers were already installed and it has no setup problems. I don't need a music player with storage as such, since I stream only these days, but there are no standalone LDAC transmitters on the market, only (!) players like the Q1 also capable of bt transmission. My main purpose for it is as portable laptop USB-DAC and USB->BT transmitter for LDAC, aptX and AAC codecs. The bluetooth connection between the Q1 as transmitter and my Shanling UP4 as receiver works as intended, although with each connection, the codec alternates between LDAC and aptX, that may need the attention of Shanling developers.

Of course the Q1 works as BT receiver like the UP4 does, although the Q1 decodes no aptX or HWA at all. Connected to my Xiaomi Mi 9 with bluetooth LDAC, the Q1 seems to have a better range than the UP4.

What needs to become smoother when connected via USB to a PC ist the transition between direct DAC 3,5 mm output and bluetooth transmission output. You need some USB unplugging, replugging, BT disconnecting and reconnecting when you change between the output methods to make the audio output either way working again.

Not possible to disable.

For all swipes, I always recommend to focus them on centre of screen, it works best that way.

Are you switching between different BT devices or always just connecting Q1 and UP4? Q1 always at default tries to connect with the BT codec you have set in its settings.

You can disable aptX in the Shanling controller, if this problem keeps happening.

Thanks for the info. My hands are pretty big so it's not easy to always start the swipe from the same point. I would love to deactivate this one gesture.
Hope that in the future some new FW will brings some new stuff after fixing issues mentioned previously.

The codec alternation was when I connected and reconnected only Q1 and UP4. I have yet to experiment with other LDAC receivers (three Sony headphones and an Earstudio)

BTW, it would be really practical if there would be a dedicated switch in the Q1 GUI for output steering when connected to a PC USB port, to easily switch between DAC 3,5mm and bluetooth transmission output.

@Shanling

I am disappointed to see that the Q1 is still not available in Canada yet. In fact Shanling has disappeared pretty much all together. I am sad to see the dealer that sold me my M0 is not selling any Shanling DAP's and seems to have opted to carry Hiby DAP's along with Fiio DAP's instead. I understand that the coronavirus is affecting shipping but is there any chance the Q1 will ever make it to Canada? Please don't ask me to contact the Canadian distributor, they don't seem interested in my queries.
