Ok, noted your feedback about extra space. Will see what we can do.

Thank you for agreeing to investigate this. It just seems sometimes the Chinese DAP makers dismiss owners needs that are not in Asia or more narrowly China.

@Shanling - I use my Q1 as a digital transport. However when I use LO, the volume is very low even though it says it will go to max volume. To get normal volume I have to turn off LO and manually set the volume to 100. Can you fix this?

Line out setting is there for analog output, please do not use it with digital output.

For digital transport, you can switch between fixed and variable volume in "USB AUDIO OUTPUT" setting.

I use line out direct to my Schiit Vali 2 in order to power some of my full-sized headphones. The result is spectacular success! 👍🤟🏻

YES! Thanks for taking the time to look into this, and thanks @fish1050 for bringing it up. I created this account JUST to tell you that it is something worth looking into. It may be a good idea to provide a different font. In my case, it all depends on the glyph.

In my collection, depending on the source of the tag, I have encountered 2 different apostrophes:

this is U+2019 Single Quotation Mark: This IS the preferred apostrophe (according to glyphnerds and THIS is the glyph that causes the space to be inserted...

' this is U+0027 Apostrophe: aka "apostrophe-quote" but it is NOT the preferred apostrophe. BUT it is the apostrophe that I get when I type and is very frequently used (I think it all depends on key mappings that most of us don't really think about).

Most of us will not see the difference on our computers unless we are using a monospace font.

For example:

07 - Jaques Mal Chance (Il n'a pas de chance).flac
and
04 - Don’t Know How.flac

Don't look very different but...

07 - Jaques Mal Chance (Il n'a pas de chance).flac 04 - Don’t Know How.flac

...they aren't using the same character.

We can recreate the spacing issue on a PC by using a CJK font:

This is my only minor annoyance with the device, and since it is in my pocket or on a shelf, I hardly notice now. If I could have one feature added it would be a more direct way to play a random album, or just shuffle the entire collection. I usually listen to albums, but sometimes I just cannot be bothered to choose.

MediaMonkey is still using libFlac 1.2.1 at least in the free version and thus it uses the U+0027 apostrophe. So I guess you can be proactive and edit all of your tracks metadata with apostrophes in MediaMonkey or wait to see if Shanling actually changes the glyph in the next update. I am hoping we will see the promised Q1 firmware update in May so I may wait for an eta on the update and hopefully @Shanling will confirm if this apostrophe change will be included.

There will be no change to apostrophe display.

There will be no change to apostrophe display.

Any particular reason? It seems clear from the posts here that it is a concern for more than a few owners. As I said the problem will get worse going forward as most tag editors use the U+2019 apostrophe.

Can you at least give an eta for the next firmware update and what changes will be included? Maybe this will placate the unhappy owner's here since you don't want to fix the apostrophe issue!!

Main thing for next firmware is synclink compatibility with iOS. In beta testing now, not sure when will be released.

Nah, I won't be doing that. I use beets to tag my files using the MusicBrainz database. It would take ages to go through all the files anyway. Might be quicker to decompile the firmware and change the font to a non-CJK font.

Right then. So, I suppose I don' t need this account. I retract my gratitude. English speakers use apostrophes quite a bit, and it shouldn' t be our job to retag our files. Even a €50 Sandisk Sansa handles apostrophes/spacing correctly. Other languages, like French, require more apostrophes.

Focusing on iOS isn' t going to help the >75% of the population that uses Android devices.

II don' t hold anything against you for leaving this defect in your software, but if left as is, you cannot claim your software is mature.

I probably wouldn't except that I already installed MediaMonkey and I have already identified all the affected tracks. This will be a long term project as I will do a few at at time whenever I add new tracks. Will certainly change the apostrophe's going forward with any tracks I add. Very much hoping that Sony releases another Linux based DAP to update from the A55. This would be a definite purchase for me given Shanling's attitude towards their non-asian customers.

I certainly hope Shanling adds more than just the synclink feature to the next firmware.

I guess there won't be anything to post about the Q1 until the next firmware.
