Man, I am all for these new “return to their roots” players, along with the Cayin N3 Ultra, without the Android stuff.

Could I ask what are the issues with daps on android that the M5 Ultra doesn't have?

Some people don't like the slow startup time, others still question the sound quality of the Android system and difference between the sound of apps, many people simply don't want to deal with the complexities of Android, 3rd party apps, updates, etc.

M5 Ultra is built directly for music purpose only, with focus on best sound quality and fast controls.

i hope the tidal player of their m1s will find its way into the device from start. though tidal doesnt allow offline streaming on it, it still is tidal streaming without the need of android!

I know it's a small thing, but I'd love to see font problems like the spaces after apostrophes fixed, too.

This and the N3 Ultra, oh boy. I'm assuming based on the literature it will have a sound presentation more in line with the M6 Ultra than the M7? Will it come with a leather case? Can it store EQ settings?

Is there a way to sort by recent/date added in the Shanling player?

It's in the works, need some adjustments for the new UI, but should be coming in firmware update fairly soon, according to latest info from software team.

Not likely to happen, this is simply core issue with the Chinese fonts used and it would mean issues with other languages.

Yes, there is Recently added tab.

So if it the fonts are such a big problem how come Sony's DAP's don't seem to have this issue? They certainly support all the same languages your DAP's do. This goes back to one of the biggest complaints I had about both my Shanling M0 and Q1. Having to update the apostrophes on all my tracks to an earlier apostrophe glyph version so they would display properly. This is the most used glyph on track names by far at least for me so it would be nice if at least this one single glyph could be fixed to display track names properly!

Edit: does this special character issue also exist on the Hiby OS based DAP's? This would definitely affect my DAP buying decisions going forward.
If you use an app like Sony MediaGo or Mediamonkey that support a tagging version released before 2013 they support an older character set that uses an apostrophe glyph that is compatible with the MTouch OS and will display track names properly without the extra space.

the M5 Ultra is non-Android MTouch, you can't sideload any APKs.

You might be thinking of the Cayin N3 Ultra which does run on Android, but there is no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and it's a completely closed Android, Cayin said there is no third-party app support.
