Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Hello,

Extremely interested by this M3X, I read every page on this thread but I still have a couple of questions. If you can answer all of them that would be fantastic!
(keywords in bold to go through questions quickly)

1- What is the boot time of the M3X? (I mean, an estimation from a real shut down and not from the sleep mode)

2- Certain players rescan the entire library at every real boot, and this can't be turned off on some model. I'm wondering if, on the M3X, it is possible to scan the library only manually by disabling the auto-scan? (I know this was possible on the non-Android -based M2s)

3- I read here that Qobuz can be installed, that's a feature I'm really looking for, thanks for that. But can anyone tell me if this Qobuz version can play Gapless? (I'm using the iOS version on my iPhone and it has it, so just want to be sure it's the same story on Android)

4- Also regarding Qobuz, is the Local mode (to play Offline) supported on this device? (I ask because it looks like this Android OS has AGLO, and I'm not sure this could make any difference in term of App behaviors)

5- In term of listening, I'm interested in several specific configurations:
° DAC mode, so Macbook (using Audirvana) USB wired to M3X wired to Sony Headphones (no question here, I know it may work well, as the M2s)
° But also interesting in listening from my Desktop library or from the Desktop Qobuz App using LDAC Bluetooth, so the following config.: Macbook (using Audirvana or Qobuz for Mac) USB wired to M3X, then this latter sending the music to my Sony Headphones via LDAC Bluetooth codec -> Is this configuration allowed and if applicable, does it work well?

6- Last question, as you may expect I own a Shanling M2s (with a single AK4490EQ). So I'm just wondering how does the M3X play compared to M2s, in term of sound quality? Does the M3X (handling its 2 ES9219C) improve audio quality compared to the M2s?

That's quite a lot of questions, sorry
Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! I received my M3X yesterday. I really like the player, but I found that in USB DAC mode it does not expand the MQA stream that I transmit from the native Tidal application. Is this really impossible, or am I doing something wrong?
MQA support is only for playback in Shanling Music app with local files or Tidal(after Tidal updates app for M3X).

MQA is not supported when using M3X as a USB DAC.

1 - Boot time is around 20s, comparable to other Android devices.

2 - Depends what software player you will be using. In Shanling Music app you can disable Automatic Update.

3 - Works gapless in our testing.

4 - Offline mode is available. But it's recommended to use only internal storage for this.

5 - It's not possible to use M3X as a USB Bluetooth transmitter. This is something we can get working on our MTouch system, but not on Android.

6 - M2s was fairly "unique" player among our line up, with very warm sound and high output impedance, that was problematic to some pairings. So on Audio side, M3X is noticeable improvement from it.

Is the MQA support Tidal updates app only on Tidal offline downloads or direct streaming or both?

Tidal needs to be updated for any new device with MQA support, for all types of playback.,

Hi, Shanling. Just want to say that your consistent presence on these boards, answering questions and such is super helpful, and was a factor in my purchase of this device. Love that kind of customer service!

Thank you a lot for this good explanations.

[...] scanning took a long time. Almost an hour to scan 17,000+ songs that are all 16bit and 24bit ALAC files.
Thank you @alwass89 for this information!

That's quite a long time, my M2s takes only approximately 5 min to scan 4,500+ songs, all in 16bit and 24bit ALAC formats too... Of course its OS is quite simple (compared to Android), but still...

Just one question:
If you have time, could you, please, try to rescan your library after performing the 1.3 update on your M3X?
Here the link just in case you missed it: https://en.shanling.com/article-MarchUpdateAndro.html

In this update: "7. Improved library scanning", so I'm wondering if this is a clear significant improvement in term of time of scanning :)

Also you can just scan a specific folder

Indeed, this feature is awesome, thanks for the advice!

[edit]
* Android-based device is completely new to me, so I read some stuff about the Shanling AGLO system allowing to bypass Android restrictions when playing songs. That is, so far, my understanding about AGLO... but I'm wondering if this AGLO feature is implemented in the OS directly, or if it is part of the Shanling Music app only? In other hand, can 3rd-party apps like Qobuz or other music player app benefit from the AGLO system?

* And speaking about Shanling Music app, since it does not support Gapless playback for now (I do know it's on the #1 top priority list for devs though, which is a good new!), which Music player app would you recommend to have a proper Gapless playback (and the best experience overall if possible) on the M3X?

[edit] Sorry everything was explained before, I missed the infos ("All audio apps on M3X uses AGLO. If you want gapless playback, HiBY or Fiio apps are a good choice".)

I have seen that if I format a 512gb sandisk extreme pro memory card using the shanling, it gives me the option to make it as internal storage. Will this work for "offline" in music streaming apps since it will no longer be recognized as a portable storage but part of the internal storage?

It should. It's an Android function that allows the merging of the internal memory of the Android device with the mSD card - essentially turning it into one drive. So, if you choose this option to format the card as internal storage you cant remove the card (physically you can - but the card will have been formatted to android system and you cant manipulate files using a USB card reader). Any new music you want to add or delete you'll need to do with the USB cable connected to the device. Samsung disables this function on their devices that inserting and removing a card doesnt affect apps. and you therefore will always see a file structure on both internal and external memory. When you merge the card to the system, you only have internal memory. Personally I prefer it this way on tablets and phones - but on Android DAP, I like to keep them separarate, so I can just pop cards with different music in and out.

Does M3X support DLNA? Like streaming from Qobuz Desktop or some Servers for instance?
You can install different apps that allow for such connection. For example BubbleUpnP works fine for streaming from Android phone to M3X.

Do you have to enable somthing in M3X for it to stream bubbleUpnP from android phones to M3x?

Install BubbleUpNp on M3x, open it and then M3X will show up in list of renderer on your phone.
