Great and well-elaborated review - thanks a lot!

A few follow-on questions:
1) Does it play playlist files (e.g. M3U?
2) is it possible to delete the song that is playing (i.e. without going into folder view)?
3) can it be controlled via headphone buttons (back, play/pause, fwd)
Thanks,
Herman

1) Yes, it works with M3u playlists
2) Yes, you can delete song from now playing screen
3) this function is not supported on our players.

If you have any question, here to answer them.

Is the Cable Remote Control not implemented, due to licensing issues, or just because HiBy Link can fully control the DAPs, via Bluetooth from an Android or iPhone?

Well, another possibility, during designing PCB, engineers didn't thought about putting the needed hardware there...

Thanks for reacting promptly.
I wonder if hardware is needed inside the player.
You may want to look in the CTIA standard. In summary: every button activates its own resistance level (in ohms).
It would be sufficient if the player detects these levels and takes the corresponding action back, fwd, play/pause, volume +/-.
See e.g. https://hackaday.com/2010/11/03/patching-into-android-music-control/

AFAIK HiBy makes the firmware for Fiio too and they support inline remotes so must be a hardware thing. That being said I thought it was important when I was looking for my everyday DAP but found out I almost never use it. Interacting with the DAP directly feels more....special somehow.

Well, the way you detect a specific resistance is by measuring a voltage, due to the the controller resistor being part of a voltage divider with a known resistance. So, an ADC is needed, connected to the 4-th pin of the TRRS jack.

Thank you for link, we are aware of these standards.
But it truly is hardware question, can't just change software to suddenly recognize signals from remote.

M2s is a great transport, I used it for mojo, now it's a perfect fit with YinLvMei M200+

@Shanling , I noticed that volume has effect when using M2s as a transport though, sure it's a bug?
Does not bother me as I just set it to 100%, but wasn't it supposed to be unaltered bit-perfect?

It's taking a bit longer I guess?

Well, we got new firmware from HiBy. After quick testing we found the card error was still there. So again back to waiting. :frowning2:

Hi all M2S owners,

Thanks to many positive review of this M2S after reading couple of months and purchased this black color M2S unit.

I love its crystal clear sound, music instruments separation are well defined. Though the sound from M2S is slightly less warmer than my FIIO X5 III.

Simple control and fast response in file scanning, startup, than X5 III, in built Hiby music control a good UI and simple to use after few days of familiarization .

This will be my best handy and portable companion to travel around.
