Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

For anyone interested I ordered a second M2s (same seller on Amazon) and this time the volume knob clicked fine but was really loose. It would easily wobble in all four directions, while the first one felt really solid and wouldn't wobble at all but would stick so bad that I would have to pull it out in some cases. The display on the new unit had different max brightness and color temperature too so I'm assuming it was a different batch run.

I read back through this thread and saw a few posts with volume knob issues. I'm not claiming it's a common occurrence but 2 players in a row for me is a red flag so I'm returning both. It's a fantastic device in all other aspects and I would still recommend it but I can't commit this
kind of money hoping every day that it won't break.

Hi all, got my new M2s today and am pretty impressed so far.
One thing that irks me is the dial/button is really sticky when I click it. The harder I press it, the more time it takes to pop out back again. It doesn't have the same nice click as the other buttons. Is this normal or should I ask for a replacement?

Sorry if it's been addressed before. I searched the forum and google but didn't see anything.

Seems that badluck hit you twice already. Bought mine last July 2017, never had issues besides the pairing issue on my android phone. Hope you can work this out with your supplier. :)

Can anyone explain how to use the M2S as an external USB DAC? I have an android phone running 7.1.2. I have a USB 2 micro USB cable connected to the phone and the other end of the cable is USB 3. When the physical connection is made, android doesn't seem to recognize the M2S. What settings are needed to accomplish this task? Bluetooth works FWIW.

Is the USB cable identified as an OTG Cable?

An OTG cable is slightly different than a standard USB cable -

I will just say, not all Android phones works this way, too many random things in settings, different firmwares, etc.

With my Honor 9, on Android 8 and matching OTG cable(used one we had for Shanling UP), connection is immediate and with no need to change anything in settings. But that is experience just with this one phone, no guarantee with others.

Several people have this, including me. It is really annoying.
Rebooting the player helps temporarily. it is about 50/50

I'm still waiting on a response from Shanling about the status of this issue.
I hope it will be fixed soon...

Doesn't recognize, or just not find any music? A couple of times now I've had mine tell me there's nothing on the SD card when I've changed it. Had to reboot the m2s to get it to read the card properly. I don't think it happened with the previous firmwares…

Great and well-elaborated review - thanks a lot!

A few follow-on questions:
1) Does it play playlist files (e.g. M3U?
2) is it possible to delete the song that is playing (i.e. without going into folder view)?
3) can it be controlled via headphone buttons (back, play/pause, fwd)
Thanks,
Herman
