Sennheiser RS220 Availability?
Apr 10, 2012 at 4:12 AM Post #361 of 500
Is it pretty common for companies to post on these threads? I've seen it with Woo Audio and HifiMan but I figured thats because they were small companies not huge ones like Sennheiser..

To my knowledge, there are at least two active members here who are officially affiliated with Sennheiser, and at least one of them posts with a fair amount of regularity. It's a pretty sure bet if there's a thread on a Sennheiser product, sooner or later he will pop in. He hasn't yet in this thread. The significance of that is anyone's guess, although you know what my guess is.

Hi everyone,

My apologies for not participating in this thread earlier. Due to its limited quantity earlier this year, the RS 220 was only made available in selected distribution channels. However, as a fellow Head-fier has pointed out, it has been recently released for sale globally.

So is Sennheiser aware of the micro-drop problems many here have been facing and will there be a fix?

Yes, we've heard the complaints and evaluated similar samples from the early batches. You may rest assure that there are no quality issues with the RS 220.

Its performance is really dependent on its immediate environment. Because the RS 220 does not use compression, it needs more bandwidth - it uses for transmission a system of 3 available channels with wider bandwidths. However, it operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency band which can be crowded and has its own limitations.

Drop outs may happen if the RS 220 is unable to repeat corrupted packets. This may be due to its environment where there are plenty of WIFI nets occupying the whole 2.4GHz band. The RS 220 does coexist with WIFI, but its link quality depends on the power level of the WIFI nets and the traffic on the used channels.

So far, we've heard plenty of positive customer reviews for this product. But if you feel that your RS 220 is not performing up to par, we'll be happy to take a look at them. Do get in touch with the nearest Sennheiser service centre, share with us the issues you have with it, and we'll make sure you're well taken care of.

Thanks for that feedback.  Unfortunately, what this tells us is that if you had a pair of RS220s that experienced dropouts, newer batches aren't going to fix the issue unless your WiFi environment changes.

It's strange that there were no complaints of dropouts with headphones that used Kleer technology...do those operate on a different band?

+1, this officially checks me out of interest for this headphone, for the price the unreliability isn't worth it IMO, going to keep watching my movies with my trusty wired D7000s.

I just got an email from soundearphones that they are back in stock and I am getting my RMA set sent in.

Know what really aggravated me with these cans? One day no issues, just butter smooth sound, on the same sofa, with the same stereo, same wifi, everything the same. Yet at other times it simply had drop after drop after drop.

Let's see if this "new" batch does any better, if this new one does not work I am simply sending them back for a refund, because at this price point it makes no sense to compromise for less.

Shame cause when they work as promised, they deliver amazing sound.

I also experience drop-outs, though rare, at the same spot and same condition as when I have no problem at all...

Frustrating right? One a positive note, soundearphones has a customer for life and a person that will definitely be recommending them. They have been a pleasure to deal with and this is coming from a customer service professional that has a multinational call center in his organization. Well done
