does extended warranty covers damage by moisture or heat? what is the warranty period (year) & how much does it cost?

Question (I joined the forum just now for this question only)... I keep my RS180 connected to the same extensioncord as my computer. My comp broke a few weeks back so I simply unplugged the headphons too. Now when I plug them back it shows the charging light but afaik they were fully charged when I took them out.
 
Can/does this cause any problems to the battery? If it does is there a way to stop them from loading/overloading? Or do I just have to keep them turned on separate from the station for X hours until the juice is out and THEN charge?

I have the RS170's and IMHO, the surround feature isn't that great. Yes, the stage will sound better and wider but it definitely was not a factoring decision at all in my choice. I will admit though, many times, I wish it was portable so I could enjoy them outside since the range isn't too far either BUT the docking station is perfect instead of having to replace my batteries and it makes a pretty badass stand. I can't comment too much on the RS 160's since I actually had them before my RS170's for about a week (until I found a sweet deal and bought the RS170's instead) but the difference from what I remember and have read is minimal. I believe the RS160's had a slightly stronger bass response but then again I've also listened to the RS170's with the 'bass' notch on. You do hear a bit of distortion every once in awhile at higher treble frequencies with the RS170's though but the rest of the stage is pretty clear and responsive.

There's nothing to worry about here. The charging light will automatically turn off once fully charged. The battery will not overcharge or overheat.

Used are $60 under the new ones right now, is it worth saving the cash or would getting new get me something?

Just picked up the RS 170. I find there is a low-level, high-pitched hum/buzz/whine audible in moments of silence and sometimes when there is faint audio, like quiet talking, strings playing softly, etc. It's also audible when no source is plugged into the base unit. It seems to be concentrated in the right ear, and I don't experience it with my HD598s, so it's not the source. I've seen several other reports of this, so it may be normal. However, if I flip the attenuator switch to 0, just touching the back of the unit near the source jack causes a loud hum to come and go in the headphones. It's hard to believe that's normal.
 
I've tried reassociating the headphones, different sources, plugging in at different locations in the house, different batteries including non-rechargeable ones, etc. Nothing changed the behavior. I'm just wondering if it would be worth it to exchange for a new set.

For $60 are you willing to risk what you don't know? I mean, if you can test them out before buying them then maybe I would but honestly, for $60 more dollars I find it 100% worth it to just get the new ones. Even then, someone's word that they 'are in good shape' isn't enough for my own peace of mind. If you are looking to keep them for awhile and want them to perform the way they should then just spend the extra $60. Are you planning on using them for portable use? If not, may I recommend you get the RS170's 

? I have a pair myself and almost use them as much as my Q701's (mostly when I'm doing work around the house and don't feel like keeping my A/V receiver on all day).

Sorry to hear about your RS 170. This could be due to a rare wire defect. You may want to get your unit checked at the nearest Sennheiser service centre.

I'm interested to get one for playing games. I need it especially to reproduce the surround effects and enable me to pin point the direction of sound. For examples like in FPS games. Which one is more suited for me, 170 or 180?

No, I get that hum too.  What works best for me is to turn the volume on the headphone down, and the volume on the source up (in my case, my home theater receiver).  Seems the hum comes from the headphone volume control.

The headphones are clearly flawed. I had to return my RS 220's and downgrade to the 170's. I miss the quality from the 220's but I sure don't miss the sound drop outs every 30 seconds. Don't need to back up my claims if you just look at simple reviews from Amazon. The product was more or less a complete failure. I hope the losses weren't bad enough to can the whole RS line all together
