Hi, I have bought RS 160 headphones and am quite pleased. But now I want to buy RS 180 headphones (without transmitter) to use with the 160 transmitter. I have 2 questions though - 1. Can both RS 160 headphones and RS 180 headphones work simultaneously with the RS 160 transmitter? 2. Is there any difference in sound quality when I connect the RS 180 headphones with the RS 160 transmitter from when I connect the RS 180 headphones with RS 180 transmitter? I want to know whether RS 180 headphones will sound equally good when connected to RS 160 transmitter as when connected to RS 180 transmitter?

Yes, you may pair the HDR 180 (i.e. RS 180 headphones) to the TR 160 (i.e. RS 160 transmitter). In fact, you may pair up to 4 Sennheiser wireless headphones to the transmitter at the same time. 
 
Sound-wise, there'll definitely be some difference. The RS 180 headphones are open with velour pads while the RS 160 are closed and come with leatherette pads.
 
Additionally, with your proposed setup, you won't get to utilise the Automatic Level Control for the RS 180 headphones. However, the Balance Control is local to the headphones so you can still make right/left volume adjustments even if the RS 160 do not offer this feature.

I have a RS160 for late night tv watching but I'm thinking of buying more wireless, so I ordered two full sets of RS180
 
My question:
 
I will now have THREE base stations. I want to connect each base station to a different TV system (I have three TVs)
 
Can I use my two RS180 headsets one day on one system and then use the same headsets with a different base station the next day. Will the base station automatically pair with whatever base station happens to be on? Depending on what I am watching (HT system, main TV or bedroom TV), I want to be able to switch my headsets to a different source

Hey Rosmadi...after returning  the RS 180s for short range transmission I ordered the RS160s ( instead of the RS 170s-because I liked the small tramsnitter)....I tried them out for a few weeks and returned them also! The 160s were a bit better with transmitted range ( 85 ft), but I still wasn't satisfied....and YES! I did perform the 'direct' method as well... I am happy with sounds and everything but to me its not worth the  money these cost if I cannot use these 'outside' in my yard !  I am open to trying something else unless you convince me otherwise!..Thanks again for your concerns!

@beerhunt I find it really strange that you have range issues... I live on the 3rd floor of a building and not only I can go from one side of the apartment to the other across 2 closed doors and still get clear signal but I have went down with the garbadge and even in the street I was getting signal.
 
How far were you from the docking station?

Also, btw, I wouldn't recommend the RS180 to use outside... not only they are open phones I would be afraid of dust and such to easily jump in
 
But... if what you want is wireless good sound outside I would recommend the Sennheiser PX 210 BT.
 
I have used them now for 2 weeks and I simply love them!!!
 
Use them with any BT device (ipad, iphone, etc) and listen to your tracks.
 
If you want to go really nuts in sound quality get the Apt-x dongle but honestly... they don't need that...

Yes it is. I am using my RS 180 headphones with RS 160 transmitter and it works great.

Sorry for this late reply. Just got back from my vacation.
 
Anyway you may use your headsets with any of your transmitters. However, you'll need to firstly pair each of the headset individually to each transmitter (of which it wasn't originally paired to). 
 
Do note that the headset will automatically be connected to the last transmitter it was paired and connected to. If you wish to connect it to another transmitter in the same room, you'll have to do it manually (i.e. turn off the other transmitter).

I'm doing some research online to decide between the 170 and 180. I was leaning towards the 180, then came across a review on Amazon for the 180's that contained the following:

Got a question. I bought rs 180 and love it. But not the ear pads though. I love the soft ear pads of rs 170 and have bought the replacement ear pads from Headphone mate eBay store. What's your opinion on this.

What have u done to replace the ear pads of rs180
