It was before i started looking properly into headphones, i was ignorant and thought Sennheiser + high price = good, wanted something wireless and went for those, biggest mistake ever, was about 2 years ago now.

If someone made a wireless planar with absolutely zero interference or hissing i *might* consider it, but it's unlikely given how power hungry they are.

Senn. does make some great corded...
Sounds like you didn't research in great depth at the time, there were solutions 2yrs ago.
Re wireless, try out the newest ones on the market that use kleer or apt-x (less impressive).
May be better options now, haven't looked closely for 18mth+.
There's been "big" improvements in the 4yr+ (?) since the RS140's.

You'll be able to read/view the first review/impression on Head-fi pretty soon

I'll also bring along a couple of the RS 220 to the upcoming CanJam @ RMAF. So everyone could come up to the Sennheiser booth and audition them!

Thanks mate, are you able to share the link here when the review's up?
Is it comparative against the prior series in any way?

Hi,

Can someone please advise...

I just bought some RS 180's today, was very happy with them, until i saw the RS 220 a second ago.. although i suspect its way out my price range... (RS 180's were at the very top of my budget)...

So, do i keep the RS 180's :) ... or is something else coming to replace them very soon that's the same price/spec etc? :frowning2:

(I'm fairly new to headphones but did try and do a lot of research...)

Hi all, this is my first post in this site. Was thinking of maybe going in for a RS130 but then after reading a few reviews I realize it'll be more prudent to opt for wireless based on KLEER tech rather than traditional 900Mhz RF models.
Right now, I'm stuck between the RS170 and RS160. The RS170 appears to be about $60 more expensive. But the advantage of the RS160 is that it is mobile and more portable. The RS170 has the BASS BOOST and SURROUND feature but the surround feature appears to be more of a gimmick, from what most users say. And since the bass boost feature can be activated on the HDR160 and HDR180 via the RS170's transmitter, I'm guessing here that the same effect can be achieved through proper EQ settings on the source. So is it worth spending that extra dough for these 2 features?? Or am I better off with the RS160? My main use will be for movies.
One thing I wanted to find out from owners is regarding their comfort level. One reason I decided to initially opt for an RS130 in the first place was because of the rave reviews regarding the comfort of the 130 headphones. Lots of users reported that they were so comfortable that they at times forgot that they were wearing them at all (an exaggeration, no doubt, but I get the general idea)! So someone please tell me how the RS160/170 measure up to the RS130 in terms of comfort. By the way, I wear glasses and I find that most headphones become uncomfortable over time if used with glasses.
TIA

I'm quite certain it'll be stateside relatively soon.  I don't know the final pricing information yet, though, or specific availability dates.

Sennheiser will be showing the Sennheiser RS220 at CanJam @ RMAF next week.

We have at the office what might be the only RS 220 outside of Sennheiser right now.  It very recently arrived, and, if I had to choose Head-Fi product of the year, this would be my easy choice (at this point in the year anyway, with still a few months to go).  It has floored everyone here who's heard it so far.

I will make a post with first impressions of the RS 220 very soon.

Keep them & enjoy them for now...
Still top-notch headphones (for wireless).
In 6mth+ you can sell them & upgrade.

I don't wear glasses, but I find the 180 to be very comfortable.
You're right in that the simulated-surround & bass-boost are both fairly gimmicky.
What you're paying for in the 170/180, is cans that are acoustically superior to the R160.
RS180 is open circumaural, generally more versatile & natural sounding for most sources.
And IIRC (memory's hazy) it has better drivers than 160/170.
Also the 180 gives you longer range than the 160/170...
The RS220 may be even better than the 170/180, remains to be seen.

RE 160 being more portable....
I'm quite sure I recall there being kleer adapters you can plug into your iPod or whatever.
Don't know if they still exist, but AIR someone tried their 170 or 180 and it worked!

Yesterday I replaced my RS-140 with the RS-180. I had to do this because I needed to run a second set of phones. The RS-140 transmitter is for one phone only. The sound quality is a big step up from the Rs-140 and the Kleer technology allows me to roam anywhere in my house and not loose reception and still have the same crystal-clear sound as if I were sitting right in front of the TV. I love these phones.

So any reviews of the new 220 yet?!?!
Only article I've seen is this, and it tells us nothing about availability worldwide!

Hi Rosemadi!
I have followed your posts thru the whole forum...congratulations for your wise advices!
Do you know any comparison between the Sony 6500 and even the Senn RS170/180 or the 220??
How could be possible that in the whole internet I can't find someone who have conducted such comparison??

Thanks!

I just found this short comment on Amazon:

Overall I'm happy with the purchase. The sound quality is perfect and exactly what I hoped for in the Sony 6500 series. I debated between this pair and the Sennheiser RS 180 for a long time. I've tried both but went with the Sony for style, no noticeable sound difference, less expensive, and more inputs (analog & digital)over the RS180.

The one thing I deducted a star for would be the size and ergonomics of the headphones. I find them constantly slipping off my head when I tilt or move my head. Luckily, I am motionless most of the time when these are in use so it is not a constant bother. The sound on both the Sony and the Sennheiser are equal. Your choices come down to absolute comfort but tacky styling in the RS 180 or sleek styling with more inputs in the Sony 6500. Either set is worth the money/convenience so try not to debate them as long as I did and just get the damn things.Sony MDRDS6500 Digital Surround Headphones
