Sennheiser MX series Vs Yuin PK series - 6 earbuds compared and reviewed.

Do they come with the rubbery sennheiser cord?
 
I hope they're actually good and not 99% hype. Tried my sister's MX560, they'd better be in a different league. Always been an earbud person, but had to get into iems because Yuin's build quality sucks.

I use my ESW9s and MX980s outside. I walk to work with either one or the other every single day.
 
I also travel around with them from the UK to France, Poland.... That is what I buy the stuff for. And I even sometimes think about all the gear I carry and wonder how much someone would get from stealing it from me I simply do not get attached to my gear. And I also mean my DSLR with a good lens a flash and all that. Going hiking near my town I would sometimes take gear worth $1500 and well,is that not what the gear is for?
 
 
Going back to our precious Senns. I have been burning them in for the past few days as I could not wait to see how they respond to burn-in and I have to say I am mor eand more happy with the results. 
 
With burn-in they are geting more and more clarity and I lke the sound more and more. Very happy with my purchase.

but when I do go out, my headphones of choice are the Mx580 and ATHws70 with my new mod.

Different phones for different folks...

I looked at this review and purchased the mx980 from Amazon. After two days of listening, I'm not liking it at all. In fact, I find my old mx500 sounds more neutral. Different fit perhaps? It is a bigger earbud and is slightly uncomfortable and heavy.

I do find my experience of the PK1s to match up with the other reviews... I've become a huge fan.
Has anyone else tried the mx980 and the PK1?

I wonder if the MX980 would be fine from my PCM-M10, it has a rather nice and powerful headphone amp but given it uses 2 AA's, obviously there's limits...

As I said in my previous posts somewhere I gave them a lot of burn-in recently. I have not had enough time to do much critical listening after the burn-in, but the most important change I noticed is much better clarity. This is the thing I noticed. Another thing looking at my notes from listening before the burn-in is better bass. I would say it is a bit more controlled too. There are still some songs though with which bass is not good enough (I am not a basshead.)
 
Generally I can say there is an improvement  and I hope it is not a placebo effect and I like these - definitely keeping them.
 
I am also thinking that such phones will require much more burn-in than the 50+ hours I have given them so far. I will keep burning them in as much as possible and will report back after more time.
 
On a side note regarding fit. I tried doing various trials to get a good fit and I think I got to the point where it is good enough for me. I simply make sure that the metal parts that come out of the buds are pushed back as much as possible and so that they ar right between the tragus and antitragus and not ON tragus.

The MX 560 is an older earbud and quite different from the current series of Sennheiser earbuds.
MX 980 is in a different league.

Yea, as ive said the Mx980 sounds nothing like any other earbud I've ever used in the hanging style.  The sound is very wide and enveloping, a nice rich bass with more low response than anything ive ever used in the bud of that style.  Its the only neutral sounding of the series.  The others have a warmness and coloring, intended to be more fun i would say.  But the 980 is pure audiophile grade, a good first step for an audiophile grade earbud that hangs.
 
I still think the Mx580 is the star of the show for being just a few notches under the Yuin Pk1. Minus some bass and clarity, its near identical in both sound and performance, stage and kick.

nice review, thanks. can anyone compare the mx760 and ok2? I have the ok2 but find them a little bass light, although the detail is the best I have found in the earbud so far.

I tried them for about half an hour at mingo's the other day, a pre-sale test thing, and they're good alright. I was primarily interested in the OMX980 for outdoors use; the source was my PCM-M10, V0 vbr files. Smoother treble than the SE530, not sure if it's rolled off or not. Soundstage was a bit bigger than the Shure, instrument separation and soundstage probably firmed up with an amp (I used whatever was on hand at the time, Icon mobile or Fiio E7), but I didn't control volume and the room wasn't silent. Subjectively preferred to the IE-7, that seemed quite a bit muddier though it also had soundstage, well, at least, IEMstage. About 0 isolation on the OMX, fine for my purposes but any serious urban use will require the CX980.

I briefly listened to MX980 in an audio shop yesterday using HM-801 (considered as an amped environment). I prefer the sound from my OK1 much more than the MX980.
 
May be the MX980 is a brand new one and have not burn-in yet. Or may be I like to listen to earbud without any foam but the MX980 was having foam but the owner of the shop did not want me to take them off.

I have been comparing my ESW9s and MX980s and I have to say I love the clarity of the buds. 
 
Having used the senns for some time however I think I will post a request for someone from UK to put a different jack on them as the one supplied is too big and fiddly. I would like something like on my ESW9s, small and handy.
 
The cable could be less stiff too, but that cannot be changed probably (it would not be worh the effort either).

I purchased PK1 and PK2 only few months before MX 580 and MX980 materialised. Bad luck.
 
Today I would go the Sennheiser route, with noticeably cheaper pricing, also taking into account that these are easily available from any reputable retail or online store, with full back-up in warranty issues. In case of any defect on a PK2 or PK2, it hardly would be worth to send them at own cost to China for repair or replacement. The same applies when ordering spare foams, tips or clips for Yuin. It is way cheaper to cannibalise a brand new KSC75 than to order spare clips and foams from Head-Direct ($55, incl. delivery to Europe). 
 
On the other hand I am reluctant, having already sunk the money into Yuins, whether an upgrade to Sennheiser MX would make sense. I mean, there are some members you did not like the MX. Still I prefer the Yuins' stealth design over the MX980' blingbling. Damn BMW design (I prefer Mercedes anyway...). Apparently the product manager in charge thought that was necessary to better justify the price to the general crowd.
 
I also considered Yuin G1A and G2A. In principle I prefer the fit of the PortaPro (the pods that rest on the temples), but it looks weird on your head and it does not fold flat. G2A with iPod Nano should work very well, with the Nano being very easy in your pocket. But when looking at the complete package, an iPod Classic or Nano with Headstage Arrow (or similar) with any earbud or IEM is about the same bulk. And the IEM or earbuds are less visible and attention rising than the G2A.
 
Relief came from an unexpected side. From my local (!) audiologist I got a set of custom tips for my RE0, at the same price as a new MX980 (cheapest online seller). Without asking, the lab installed an ambience channel into the tips, i.e. a channel connecting ear canal with the outside world. The tips did not improve bass or speed, but the RE0's mids and efficiency. In other words it plays lowder and fuller with unamped sources! Fit is both firm and comfortable which is great when you are on the move. The ambience channel makes you hear the environment better. Overall, iPod Nano plus RE0 plus my (!) custom tips is a perfect combo for walking arround. Be aware that the impact of custom tips depends very much on shape and material. Still, for stationary use and noisy environments I prefer the RE0 with single-flange tips and amped.
