I'm sure they sound phenomenal, but they just remind me of a cheap version of the HD-800s

HA! Cheap. I'll tell my wife that

But a cheap version of the HD 800s would still be phenomenal.

I've grown quite fond of the look of the HD700 in the past week.

Glad someone likes them.

For me, I thought it wasn't possible to look more cheap and tacky than the HD800, and the HD700 proved me wrong.

Personally I think the HD650 remains one of the best looking headphones on the market and I wish they would return to that aesthetic rather than this tacky 1980s sci-fi prop design style.

Style is a matter of personal taste.

I certainly don't think that the HD 800 look "cheap and tacky" although I still do like the style of the HD 650.

Personally, I think that Sennheiser had a problem with designing headphones that made a statement as the HD 800 had such a revolutionary design.  They ended up with something that some people love and others, unfortunately, hate.

But, after living with my HD 800 for three years, I still love them.

Not revolutionary. Sa5000 came out years before and looks way better.

Revolutionary in the fact that they are the first headphones to use a ring transducer - patented.

The HD 800 actually has three patents - I would call that revolutionary.

I was talking technically, not talking about looks at all, when I said "revolutionary design".

YOUR MOM came out years before and looks way better.

They look fine to me, but I liked how the HD800 looked so that might be part of it.

Sorry, I was trying to make a joke that everyone here is over-reacting about differences in taste, because who really cares! It's not like your HD700 is ever going to leave your house anyway. And really, it was a compliment

Also, does anyone have a list of jokes that will not offend people on head-fi, do I really have to go more tame than 'your mom' jokes?

Originally I didn't like the HD700 look but now I think in some ways it looks more stylish in some ways than the HD800, in terms of a sleek external styling.

If you think about it, the HD800 looks like basically two drivers and a metal mesh speaker cone strapped to your head, with a bit of trim and styling thrown in. The HD700 looks more like a overall stylized product, a definite relative of the HD800, but with more time taken to smooth out lines and perhaps a bit of form over function.

So in that respect I agree with Jude now that the HD700's styling is refined from the HD800. However in some ways I still like the HD800 more, it has a more "serious" look, if that makes sense.

logwed: I don't think that was tasteless at all. In fact that was one of the most polite "your mom" jokes I've seen. There are always people offended by just about anything. Even my post here will probably will offend some HD700 and HD800 owners.
