Could I get more comparisons against the HD 650s since there are a fair number of accounts saying this is a step up from those? I have the HD 650s, and while I'm not looking to upgrade, it'd be nice to know my options. I'm not a fan of wooden-type headphones, purely due to their aesthetic (please don't kill me), so I've really only been looking at Sennheisers and Beyerdynamics for my future.

In terms of technicalities ie. transparency, detail retrieval and imaging, the HD700 is clearly superior to the HD650 perhaps with the sole exception of bass impact.

However as the HD700 sounds totally different to the HD650 you better look elsewhere if you like the HD650's sound and looking for a natural upgrade.

P.S. It's interesting to note that the HD650 is the last Sennheiser high-end dynamic headphone that has that euphonic qualities about them... You have to jump into the Orpheus territories if you want to experience it again in their line-up.

The LCD-2 rev.1 would be this.

wheres that off topic meme when we need it.

Anybody that bothered by the meandering nature of this thread should have unsubscribed weeks ago. This thread started to outlive its intended usefulness around page 15. Project86 has started an actual review thread for the HD700, and hopefully others who are in a position to do so will add soon.

Well, it's to be expected.  After all, the announcement was made months before the headphones were to be released, plus there's been very little new info to go on besides the initial impressions.

I was asked to refrain from posting my delightful off-topic memes as it aggravated the natives here.

Being a compliant headfier, I will stifle my creative urges and allow other to continue to post their off-topic diatribes without my input.

The HD700 will be the go-to phones for the mid-range audiophile who likes a little financial padding in their thin wallets, and less of a debt on their credit cards.
