Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

It CAN...depends how you have it set-up on your computer.   There's much more info in the Computer Audio section on set-up.  Sonarworks also has a video there...showing possible set-ups with Mac/Windows which will do what you want.

As I am sure there are many others besides myself who use Google music and/or other streaming services, this is very good to know. Thank you. :)

Computer Audio section???  Head-Fi forum or something else?  I was just on Sonarworks' website looking for details in getting it to work and found the information lacking.  Am very interested in trying it though!

Funny because when I tried the HD700 setting it sounded wonky and terribly unnatural. Like they were trying to correct a very wrong frequency curve in the least organic way possible. Oh yeah, it's VERY different, just I hated it. :p

I will say the Mullard 8100s, though they're new on my end, seem to make a pretty dang pleasant difference. I fired up some black metal at high volume (Coldworld - Melancholie2), because it's a brightly mixed album and would be wildly unpleasant to listen to. Result? Nope. Perfect.

So with jazz recordings it was mind-blowing for me...

But, now I am listening to classical strings and it does sound "funny", in that a solo violin sounds like it's being played in a long hallway (almost like there is echo or reverb). Very unnatural sounding but I am going to give it more time and see how my brain adjusts to the sound.

I am puzzled how this can sound so good with one genre and so terrible with another. I'm always learning with this hobby.

That was EXACTLY my feeling. Like they threw a bunch of that phony-baloney Dolby "room simulation" onto it. I'd be willing to be sometimes it carves the sound in a way you like, but it's far from the way it's "meant" to be.

I have a set of 650s on hand as well and the 650 setting did the same thing. I am totally cool with people saying they like what SW does, but it is FAR from "fixing" the headphones in any way.

Could you try the HD700 with these equalizer settings in Equalizer APO?

I think HD700 is an excellent headphone with a sharp 6-7 peak. No software can fix that without messing up the sound. Sennheiser engineers probably listened to classical and jazz only while tuning HD700 but forgot about pop, rnb, EDM fans. Hopefully they release a HD700 S or HD750 so I can buy it.

(HD800 S has no peaks like regular HD800 so I believe that can do it somehow)

  • Download and install EqualizerAPO.
  • After installing, you'll need to restart your computer, as the installer instructs.
  • Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\EqualizerAPO\config"
  • Open the "config.txt"
  • To make sure this will work, change the dB value(6) to "0." The volume level should change after "ctrl+s"(saving.)
  • If the volume level changed, copy and paste the preset, below, into "config.txt" (REPLACE/ctrl+a everything)
