Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I totally agree, the HD600's are so nice I'm having a difficult time trying to find another nice headphone to compliment them.

Fidelio X1 adds more bass and basically gives your head a hug lol. So depending on your music, it has some complementary qualities. The HD600s just do a very good job at pretty much everything though, it's hard to find something to complement.

I have the HD600 & the DT880...what do you guys think about adding the X2 to the fold?

Depends on what kind of sound you are looking for, the X2 is close to the HD-600 but much easier to drive.  I don't have the DT-880 but have a DT-990 which has a fairly different sound signature but like the HD-600 sound best with OTL tube amps IMO.  As @jazzwave suggested you might want to try a planar like HE-400i or a dynamic like the HD-700 if you want to try a different type of sound signature.  Just remember that you need to also consider the amp you are using to properly drive these headphones to get the best out of them.

I listen to everything from indie, alternative to hip-hop music. I was thinking about DT880, or DT990. I was also looking at the DT150. The choice doesn't have to be within the Beyerdynamic family. I plan to pick up a Emotiva DC-1 this week to use as my main rig.

Haven't seem much posted about DC-1 in these threads but if you have heard it with the HD-600 and it sounds good then I'll take your word.  Which version of the DT-990 or DT-880 were you thinking of getting, 32/250/600 ohm?  The DT-990 premium 250ohm that I have sounds best on the BH Crack IMO while the HD-600 sounded better on the Project Ember.  Different Z ratings has an impact on how they will pair with an amp, some pairs are better than others so I suggest if you can to try and demo before you buy, if that's not an option then ask questions on the threads of the amps and headphones that you are interested to get a better idea of what others have experienced to help you along journey.

Right now I have several amp options-Little Dot MKIII, Keces HA-171, Beresford Capella & a JDS Labs O2. Any input on any of these with say the HE-400i which I've been eyeing lately.
For DAC's I have a Maverick Audio D-2 & Beresford Bushmaster MKII.

I also own all three headphones and i would say if u listen to metal and EDM it is worth it. IMO it is overall better headphone then HD 600 and DT 880. If u have modded your little dot to use 6AS7G tubes it can sound great even from OTL amp.

Do you have the X2 or HE-400i?

I'm grateful for the help DavidA. Thanks for the examples of what sounds best to you. As for which versions this is something I'm still looking into. I will have to take Jazzwave's suggestion and do some reading at the suggested Beyerdynamic thread before pulling the trigger on anything.
