Nothing like waiting for new gear. F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5

"Hmm, tracking info says it's left the start facility." *F5* "Damn, it still hasn't passed through the next sort facility. I'll check it later, it'll probably reach somewhere by then." *Presses F5 after waiting 40 seconds* "Damn, still hasn't gotten anywhere yet. Why is it taking SO LONG???"

Is it worth it to upgrade from FiiO E17 + E09k to Schiit Magni and Modi? Is there going to be a big difference with the HD 600? Or is there something better that I could get for (not too much) more money?

The ifi micro Ican amplifier pairs very well with the 600. Can be purchased from music direct for $285.00 with free shipping. Mids are fantastic.

If the E17/E09k combo is powerful enough for you, keep it. The Magni outputs slightly more power (260mW into 300 ohms vs. ~150 for the E09K). Distortion on both combos is low enough to be inaudible. The E09k has a 10 ohm output impedance, which is not a problem with the HD600, but if you're planning on hooking up some low impedance headphones (<80 ohm) then the Magni would be a better match.

It's not that crazy. I've also seen people wearing the HD 800 or HE-400 in the subway here on Head-Fi (headphone sightings thread).

If you don't want isolation on the go (and if your environment is rather quiet), I don't see any reason against open-back headphones.

To me, that's pretty crazy. I was just on the subway with my AKG K545 and FiiO E12 and I needed to activate the bass boost to minimize the subway rumble. Using open headphones on the subway is a sure way to murder your ears. Of course, I've seen/heard a million people on subways and trains blasting music out of their earbuds for everyone to hear.

I'll look it up, thanks for the suggestion.

Is there something you don't like about the E17 and E09K?

Well, to make things more clear, I'm more looking for a better DAC than an Amp specifically (or both really). I've often read that the E17 + E09k are okay but not as nearly as great as say schiit's DAC and Amp. There is absolutely nothing I don't like about E17 or E09k, but it really is the only thing I've heard when it comes to DACs and Amplifiers. And I'm not really in a position to try out random ones in a store to even know the difference between DACs. As you can tell I don't have much experience when it comes to this at all. So what I'm asking is what would be a good upgrade from what I currently have but which is not too costly (maybe in the range of 200 ~ 300 dollars?). What I want is not more power, but something that would give me even better sound. Thank you for your replies!

The Modi/Magni are a slightly different sound, but I wouldn't say better. In my experience, the Modi/Magni (Versions 1; haven't heard the upgrades) are less warm and thinner than the Fiio stuff. I think its more a nuanced, lateral move than moving to something better. If you dislike the warmness of Fiio, then consider the Magni/Modi.

If anyone has an experience in comparing the following, do you prefer the E12, E12 DIY (Stock) or E12A w/ the HD600? Fiio rates all of them up to 300ohms, but I see their power output varies a bit. Thanks! (I'll ask on the other threads as well.)

Really? That's certainly interesting. I wish I could try them out for myself, especially the upgrades. I guess I'll stick with FiiO for now unless I get a chance to hear something that's much better than it. I love how FiiO sounds, although I keep asking myself "how much better can it even get than this?". Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

The web page you gave the link for gives the price below as before the rebate. I copy pasted the below. All too good to believe.

Price before Mail-In Rebate
$249.00

I clicked and looked at it too. If you've been waiting for an even more ridiculously low price for some new HD600s, now is the time! The rebate link says the promotion runs until 4/27/2015 so you better act fast. Back to that temptation for a second set for absolutely no reason.......
