Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

That doesn't make sense. If you desire a better DAC to feed the headphones you already own, how is buying another headphone going to satisfy you?

You and I are one the same chapter of our head-fi journey. I love my HD600, and I have a decent DAC. When I'm ready to upgrade, the DAC/Amp is what comes next. I'll want a more robust sound, with Balanced capabilities. That alone will upgrade the sound of the HD600. Then, and only then, will I even consider buying something like the Audeze LCD 2.2.

At this threshold I don't feel I'm getting the full potential of the HD600. Until I am, why would I even consider another set of cans? It'll be the same story all over again with the new pair.

Don't get me wrong, what I have sounds amazing. I simply desire a little more from my DAC. The D1 Plus has a fabulous amp section, though.
That's how to do it. Has you upgrade that's exactly what you'll get. A. Fuller more natural sound. The hd600's are great phones, well worth building a system around. Enjoy

I've never had the pleasure owning the 900X but I did have the 900 for quite some time and truly enjoyed the headphone for its superior detail and presentation. It also reproduced female vocals exquisitely and was excellent with classical. I have the HD600 and they are very different hp's. with the HD600 being very smooth and almost a bit dark compaired to the 900 with a classic vintage sound IMO. The HD600 certainly has more bass and works well with most all genres. I sold my AD900's but still have the HD600 and enjoy them each time I get a chance to listen. I think you would like the HD600 as it's just so easy to listen to and does so many things right.
BTW I also have the DT880 600Ohm and would have to disagree with the member who said it was superior to the HD600, more of a complement to rather than an upgrade from.JMHO

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sold on the HD600's, only problem now is the amp/DAC. I was looking at the Magni/Modi 2, but the price here in Australia is painful. The official reseller (addictedtoaudio.com.au) charges $400 for the pair, whereas the exchange rate and shipping bring them to about $350 from the Schiit website. Most of the time this country is great, but man do we get screwed over sometimes.

Do you still think it will power it? I know it won't have its full potential but prob will get better amp in the future to connect it with my fiio x1

Any power in excess of what's needed for headroom is wasted in a decently designed amp. A Schiit Magni can drive most headphones, including the HD600 or HD650, without distorting and its FR is as flat as can be. If you're reaching as high as 600 Ohms, a little investigation of specs is worth looking into.

HD600 is very popular among recording pros. And they don't tend to have any crazy headphoneamps with them.

HD600 works surpringly well from crappier sources too :)

Alright. I am trying to find which headphone will be a upgrade to my fidelo x1

I think that's a personal preference. What one person will just love another might despise. That's why some people are bassheads and others fall into different categories of listener. I think the best thing you can do is listen to different headphones to discover what kind of sound profile appeals to you and then find quality headphones that follow that theme.
I also believe that unless one's amp can't drive a pair of headphones, your best improvements in sound, by far, are due to the headphones you select.

Fidelio X2.

Nah I really don't want to go with another fidelo series I was thinking something like akg 7xx or maybe h600/650. I heard the 650 and it was great. want something good mids clean vocals wide soundstage clarity and detail

Depends on what sound signature you like. If something along the lines of X1, then HD600 is not a clear upgrade. More of a sidegrade.

HD650 sounded boring to me.

X2 is not going to give you that big soundstage or flat-type of sound, better stay with Sennheiser :)

HD600 and 650 have a very true-to-life sound. What you hear is what you get.

X2 is the fun kind of thing with more bass, less highs.

That means that anything less than perfectly recorded is going to sound like schiit. I had to be extremely careful with my music collection.

HD650 is obviously more forgiving headphone, but too compromised on the treble, IMO.

I wouldn't be too worried about driving the HD600, it's not incredibly tough drive and I've found it's not picky with (at least with my 2) DAC's. As long as you first have a good recording with a decent amp\DAC I think your gonna be good.

BTW ~ Samsung Blu-ray->Maverick Audio D-2->Keces HA-171->HD600 =

Well. What is the better answer?

Going completely off the other end is clearly not the way either.
