Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

until I can afford 800's I want these or the 650's.

not really a priority right now tho

I haven't heard the 800s, but between the 600s and 650s, I'd pick the 600. My brother has a 650 and I listened to them; I like the 600s better. It's not as dark and has equal fidelity. I even believe the bass sounds smoother by not being as present as it is in the 650. That's not to say the 650s are a bassy headphone, but I enjoy the presentation of the 600s more.

Do the 600s or 650s have smoother highs? I am incredibly sensitive to 5k and up so darker headphones are my preference

Probably equal on those terms. The only real difference I heard was that the 650s are darker, with more pronounced bass. They feel a little slower too. But these are my ears, they could sound totally different to you. It would be best if you found a way to listen to both of them.

I find the HD 650 a bit smoother overall. The HD 600 has more presence in the 3-4khz region over the HD 650 so not the same region as you are sensitive to. The FR graph should help your decision.

I felt the HD650 as having a little more in the 500Hz-2Khz range and a little less in the 3-4 khz one.
Also , while i felt hd650 as having slightly more sub bass, Hd600 has more impactful bass to me

Now you're gonna have a real good time. I thought the same thing when I got mine, 'Fantastic right out of the box."
"Southern Tier NY," is that like the South Bronx?

Just got mine today as well and tried them out.  Currently unamped, un-DAC'd.  So yeah, obviously not gonna sound what it should.  Still burning it in as well.

First impression, the AKG K701 seems to me to have punchier bass, the HD600 seems smoother.  AKG midrange currently sounds superior in clarity.  HD600 seems warmer.  Both sound woefully underdriven.

Can't wait for my Schiit stack to arrive to truly open these babies up!

Hi guys,

After reading a lot about HD600/HD650 I decided to buy HD600. I received them today, but I have one doubt: they were packed in an older box, not current box that sennheiser uses. Does that mean that it is an old version of the HD600? Are there any differences between the phones in the old and new box? They are brand new from the shop.

Thanks for help.

AFAIK it was purely a packaging change.
I don't think there is any difference between iterations.
Certainly no one ever said the old ones (which I have) were no good!
Enjoy your headphones.
If they sound good. They are good. HTH. :)
