SennGrado Thread

thought I would weigh in again on the performance of the senngrados I put together around five or six months ago. I compared them to my recently wooded sr80i's a little unfavorably. I decided that was unfair & have been listening to each for two weeks at a time & alternating– plugged into a fiio x5ii & no amp, lots of folk, classical (chamber & solo instr.), electronic, & various rock, no favorite tracks over & over again. I have to say the senngrads are really impressive. A nice wide soundstage I can just get lost in. Not super- wide, but deep. A little less detail in the mids, but I don't miss it because of the detail in the bass & sub bass. Here's the configuration for the tape on the vent holes– thirteen holes covered in groups of two rather than four:

here are a smaller set I'm working on as a pair with a low profile,  for walking in wet weather:

these still sound like stock px100ii's.

Does anyone have any somewhat inexpensive gimbal/headband suggestions? If I remember Urbanears Plattan is an option, but can't remember if there are other routes.

If I remember, the Plattan is collapsible too, which might be nice.

be very carful when you pull the wires over the cups as the cups will scratch really easily.

Hmm, that's a tempting option too. It's a shame gimbals aren't exactly easy to find for this, as any nice ones I've seen are quite expensive.

I've been looking for gimbals also, most are $150+, really nice but a little more than I want to pay.  I even tried to get some used SR-60's on Ebay just for the parts but everyone just bids them up to almost the price of new

Just joined the SennGrado club.  Red cedar cups.

Haven't quite decided on what I think of them.  Very different from what I'm used too.

Got any pictures?  Never seen red cedar cups before, but I remember it being used a lot for open beam ceilings when my dad and his friends were building houses.

Good to see them still in rotation :). I have a pair of Lignum cups ferreted away in my parts drawer for a rainy day...maybe they'll come out and get some use soon.
