OT:  Does any know if the Q701 and K240 ever got together and had a lovechild?  I might like to adopt it.

Yeah, there's the mk1, mk2, DF, M, Sextett EP/MP/LP, 241, was there a 242? Bah, I'm sure I'm missing a few.

I have the following AKG headphones:

K702
K550
K450
K271

So I guess I am in "Team AKG" :)

For me the K702s are outstanding headphones. These were my first AKG headphones.

The next purchase was the K271s. These I use for monitoring audio output of my video camera (I am a video producer). I also use them with portable audio from time to time.

The next purchase was the K450s. These I use with portable audio. In truth I don't see these as being really "AKG" headphones like the K701s in that they are simply rather good budget headphones. I bought them because I wanted closed back headphones to use with my iPod Touch. I do have a pair of Sennheiser PX100s but these are no good on public transport because there is no isolation of course. I am not very enthused about the sound of the PX100s so I did not wish to get the PX200s which I believe do have insulation. So I got the K450s which are pretty good for my purposes.

Final purchase are the K550s which have a very different sound from the K702s and the K271s. The K550s are moving a bit towards the Sennheiser sound imho, which to me is characterised by a fattening of the components of the sound. However the K550s are really a superb pair of headphones. I was in Colombia on holiday recently and it was prior to that trip that I bought the K550s. On the plane over and in Colombia I really enjoyed using these headphones. I could listen to music on my MacBook Pro without annoying my friends. On my return to the UK it was great to get back to the K702s which are still my favourite headphones.

Actually, it dropped down as low as $224 a couple of weeks ago.  Camel3 said that was their lowest price in over a year, so I bit the bullet.  Glad I did.

Hi. Yeah I just checked that. I live in Europe so it is quite cumbersome

I'd have to pay customs duty plus quite massive shipping fee so the price would be $350 all fees included. k701 cost $290. I guess the price difference is worth paying considering the difference in sound quality and functionality betwwen Q and K, or isn't it? I'll see what I can do.

From what I can gather, there is a difference in SQ between the K702 and the Q701. The K seams more analytical while the Q is a bit warmer. Pick your poison :) (PS, PICK THE WHITE Q701)

Side note, I really want to put the silver grill cap from a K702 into my Q701!

My k701 arrived yesterday so I am definately, definately in the AKG club now

. They sound absolutely amazing. I could put them against much more expensive cans actually. I also ordered a Matrix M-stage to give them some juice. That one arrived today. So everything is still "unburned" but anyway the sound is great out of the box.

My goal now is to buy a pair of mint K501 before they are completely gone.

I guess you can count me in team AKG. I got my AKG K240 MKII's a little over a week ago and I love them. That sweet seductive midrange, intimate and soft presentation, very warm but not dark, good amount of treble, and the ability to add that certain groove to everything making them very musical, I think my tubes my probably make them sound even more musical. I wonder if there is a way to bring out more detail in them though, maybe getting a better cable.
