Have you tried it from the Lyr yet? ^^ I might be more excited than you are!

Heh, no I haven't. He lives about an hour away, and being without wheels makes it a little difficult to visit him.

I should make him haul all his gear up here, actually.

Only K240S and K422 for now.  Hoping to add a Q701 and K550 before the year is out.

Just picked up a Q701 and a K518LE.  Haven't heard them yet.  Still no K550 though (ran out of play money).  So now I'm rockin':

AKG K240 Studio
AKG K422
AKG K518LE

Objectively, catch a microphone and measure them. Make the assumption that the pair producing the smoother response is the one you should keep, which you then mod for further gain.

There's no simple answer. Check this page and the rest of the thread.

Ahh I mean subjectively. I kept switching between them last night and while there are differences, I like the both of them - and could not decide which one I like better!

The K400 has some very lovely, emotional mids. They are more forward than the K500, but as forward as my MSPro. Together with the very tight (and a bit light) bass and a smooth treble they make a very rich, romantic sort of listening experience.

The K500 has brighter and more extended highs. It also has a bigger perceived sound stage (I suspect it is due to the extra treble energy). This gives them a very airy sound signature, yet not overdone like the K701 that I have tried.

So a toss up between mid-focused and airy... My instinct is tending towards the K400 but I have the HD580 already and the K500 shares bigger contrast with it. I'm just deciding which one should I keep

Explain yourself!

I know of changing pads from stock ones to maybe the K601 pads, and possibly adding a small circle of thin fabric on top of the drivers; as well as the tape mods over the driver openings.

I might be selling my minty Sextetts soon, which will mean I no longer qualify for team AKG

Sad to see them go, but they hardly get any headtime with all the other toys around, and I've got bills to pay...

Just picked up a pair of K240 Studios to complement my beloved Ultrasone HFI-780. Everything I read about how AKGs are excellent at portraying mids was spot on when I got to listen to these headphones after 24 hours of burn in. I gotta say that after years of convincing myself that I wouldn't like AKG headphones because I tend to favor colored sounding headphones, I am in love with these K240 Studios. They really do complement my HFI-780s wonderfully, and will certainly get their fair share of listening time.

AKG K 273. Reportedly being sold with 'exclusive rights' by that one online retailer (which, according to Wikipedia, is the biggest in its somewhat obscure country). Pull a google and see how much you can find out about this model - ain't much.

Seems odd?

I'd draw parallels to the K 250 from the '80s. No mention of it anywhere, AKG has no idea they ever made it, yet there it is, albeit available only in small quantities today.

I definately like AKG. I don't own any AKG headphones yet (I have a Senn HD650 as my primary headphone) but I heard a pair of K501 a couple of years ago and really liked them. I also tried k701 one month ago and honestly think they are beautifully sounding cans, incredibly detailed and balanced. I'd like to hear the new k702 65 anniversary edition.

I got my K240 MKii back from my cousin, who I let take them to Belgium for a few months. He stretched out my headband! It doesn't clamp tight anymore, so they fall off occasionally.

Now I'm rocking Q701, K167, K240 MKii, HD 555, and ATH-A700. Definitely love my Q701 the most, then the Hd555. The Mk's were great when they fit lol. K167's definitely e
Bat out the ATH-A700's for my closed cans for sure though!
