Roll Call for Team AKG
Oct 26, 2010 at 1:24 AM Post #586 of 1,537
I've owned the 701, 702, two Sextetts (MP and LP), 240M, and two K340s (bass light and heavy).

I currently still have the Sextett MP, LP, and 702 in my possession. The MP is still my favourite, and I'll probably sell the other two soon.

The K701's cable is not much shorter than the classic AKG K240's if i remember correctly.  Longest cable I've seen on any headphones I've ever owned (previous to AKG).   How long do you really want it to be?  Do you want to walk down the hall to the next room?  I can pretty much walk from my desk [which is in the corner of this room], and I can walk across the room without needing an extension cable [and it's a moderately sized room, bigger than the average bedroom].  If you leave your desk how do you control the volume on your amp, unless you have a fancy one with a motor in the pot.

The K702 and the new Q701 use a mini XLR - the current K271 MKII and K240 Studio and  K240 MKII to.
The Q701 enclosed a 3m and a 6m cable.

K1000, K240 Sextett, K400 with K401 drivers. I miss the old collection. :/

A point of interest - how many would buy a new K1000 if AKG made a new series?
If AKG would made a remake it gives a minimum pice of number.

Add me to the roll call. I've owned the AKG 702 since January 2010, and they are truly superb. I was using my reciever's headphone jack until I tried the new Schiit Asgard Headphone Amp. This really brought my music into better focus, with much improved all around sound. Several weeks ago, I was on the Schiit site again, and they have released a new tube Headphone amp,the Vahalla. Looking at the FAQ section on their site, I read that they voiced the Vahalla with several AKG models, including the 701. I have to say, as much as I love the 702/Asgard combo, the Vahalla is a dream come true.
My 702's sound warm and full bodied, with deeper bass and pristine highs. The midrange has a natural sense of liquid body I have not heard before through these phones. All my music sounds a little sweeter, yet retains the classic sound of the AKG. I strongly urge any 701/702 owner to check out the Schiit Amp line. The Asgard retails for $249 and the Vahalla for $349. Both are sold direct and come with a moneyback guarntee. Both are highly regarded on this site. Check it out.
Highly Recommended.

Hi macbob713

I think that the AKG K701/2s just keep getting better as the amplifier improves

I'll bet a lot fewer people would actually buy it than those who say they would. If I had the money, I probably would, but I think it would have to equal or surpass the original K1000 and be competitively priced to have a good chance on the market.

My second post in this thread. I still stick to portable AKG head/-earphones. Have had K420 for 1,5 year and like them a lot. Recently bought K319 earbuds and they are very good as well.
