The DF is probably my favorite K240 and quite possibly my favorite of the AKGs I've had period.
you took the sextett radiators and slapped them into another can I'm guessing from reading your headphones list?!? That's cool. The DF is probably my favorite K240 and quite possibly my favorite of the AKGs I've had period.
post a picture of it!Oh, no it was made like that. AKG OEM'ed a headphone for Realistic/Radio Shack a few decades ago. Come to think of it, I never use it anymore. I should probably sell it...
lol! Is that pumba? Hehehe. how does it sound?
They sound nothing like Sextetts strangely enough.
If anyone wants nicer pictures (for any of my headphones actually) just ask! I'll be setting up for taking pictures for my V-MODA XS review anyway.
Sounds like the AKG "house sound" never really included deep bass. This was even true on my Dad's old original K140 but if I'm not mistaken it isn't using the Sextett drivers.
The K240 Studio isn't that different from what you're describing but the treble is a bit hot to be called neutral, the sub-bass is quite lacking, and the upper bass/lower mids are just a double dB above neutral. I'm essentially comparing to what I heard with an HD600 and Shure SRH440, the latter of which I own.
I think some say the K240M has more treble roll-off than modern 240s and I've also heard the K240DF is the most neutral of the whole classic AKG line. I'm still very curious about the DF myself.
wonder if the k812 has good extension...A lot of AKGs do lack sub-bass, especially the classics. I didn't notice good sub-bass in AKGs until the K6xx line and K7xx line. One thing I love about my K712s and the K612(which goes a little lower in the bass) is how deep the bass goes, few open dynamic headphones have the capability to go as low and deep as the K7xx and the K6xx line.

I've also got one (you may have noticed from my last photo) (actually selling it right now).
Sound is quite treble forward, and surprisingly bass light (for a vintage AKG!)
If you have a speaker amp, cranking up the bass with these is really nice, the passive diaphragms respond really well to it, even if to just make it neutral.
Basically this. They're really quite bright, brighter than Grados but with less energy. The main reason I got them was because wualta (I think) said they have some of the best mids on any dynamic headphone, but apparently there's a lot of variation on these.
