How do the Sonorous III and IV compare to the VI?

I did some comparisons in my review for The Headphone List, the VI and other cans I had on hand. (The VI is very nice sounding)

The Shure Alcantra pads are amazing as far as comfort goes, but I found them lacking in terms of sound quality the longer I had them on. Eventually ended up with the Brainwavz Angled Pads and think they're a fantastic match. Here's what I said about them a few months ago: http://www.head-fi.org/t/696821/reviews-impressions-thread-final-audio-design-pandora-hope-vi-interesting-dynamic-ba-full-size-headphones/1650#post_13087250

I bought the Brainwavz Angled pads last week based on your post. They bring the VI back closest to the sound of their original pads (type B, I believe) without the unbearable discomfort of the Final pads.

Absolutely second this recommendation!!!

I was just listening to mine last night for the first time in a while, and I still have the BWZ Angled Pads on. This is a really underrated headphone IMO, especially at it's price point.

With all this talk of different pads, I just looked at mine and they are starting to wear... no wonder... they have been my main cans for the last 18 months+ and had not really had any rest days.
Anyway, so I need to look for a replacement.

However, I just got curious and just took my K702 pads off and placed over the headphones to have a listen. You can't actually attach these, as there is no compatible mechanism... the result was quite good. It opened up the sound of the Pandora VI to the K702 like openness... but sacrificed a tiny bit of the bass impact. I'll have to have some play with different pads too now.

Hey guys, just a quick question. What open-back headphone do you think sounds most like the Sonorous VI's? I love the sound of the Sonorous VI's (impactful and ideal amount of bass, engaging, detailed mids, and polite treble), but sometimes I wish they just had a bit more airiness and sound stage in their overall presentation. Thanks!

C-type pads (standard pads for Sonorous X and VIII) are on the final official Japanese direct shop now.

There are official comments of sound of pads when used on Sonorous sibling models.
http://final-audio-design-directshop.com/fs/final/FI-EPPA/FI-EPSOC

It says if C-type pads used on Sonorous VI or IV, kind warmer sound, especially lows become broad and softer, and can meet new different type of sound from Sonorous VI and IV.

D-type pads (standard for Sonorous III) and E-type pads (standard for Sonorous II) are on sale and has matching comment on as well.

I hope they ship to the States. I've been wanting to try the Type C pads.

While I originally fell in love with the sound, I quickly found that it was impossible to listen to them for any extended amount of time because my ears were pressing against the drivers. I met Zach of ZMF headphones at a local meet recently and discussed the comfort problem with the Pandora VI. We tried out a few different things and ultimately found the perfect option, these lambskin pads with a good deal more space for your ears. The new pads only ever so slightly changed the sound (more bass) but took the comfort from a 2/10 to a 9/10. Highly recommend any owner of the Pandora VI to consider changing the stock pads.

Eikon pads are killer. I've got several pairs on different sets. I'll have to throw them on the VI's and give them a try.
