[REVIEW] HifiMan RE272 – the Purist

If you reverse the channels, you should put the L in right ear and vice versa. If you wear the R upside down in right ear then it doesn't seal or feel good. Same with the RE262.

Great review ClieOS.  I would like to know if you think the synergy will be good with Sflo2 + Stepdance + RE-272 because my last analytical iem (DBA-02) was too sibilant/fatiguing for me in this combo.

The synergy is quite good. THough they are both analytical IEM, RE272 is never quite as aggressive as DBA-02. Pairing RE272 with StepDance will further tame down any forwardness on the upper mid of RE272 and the result is more refined presentation that doesn't show any aggressiveness.

Awesome.  I love the analytical sound of the DBAs, but I sold it because I became overwhelmed by the treble in my setup.  So far the RE272 sounds like the perfect replacement.

The RE272 is just a stellar IEM. I'm loving listening through all kinds of albums. Amazing detail but so musical at the same time. Really enjoying it. Thanks for the recommendations and reviews, as always.

Why do I prefer e-Q5 over RE272 ? I put RE272 on but later switch over to e-Q5 every time.

Maybe because e-Q5 have some kind of synergy with your source.

That could be the factor.

Apart from Meier Audio Stepdance (as suggested by ClieOS), what are my other options for portable amplifier in same price bracket or lower ?

i prefer the 272 over eq5 , i use it with a J3 and an arrow 1G

the eq5 seems to have better mids , but the highs make my ears hurt after a while

iBasso T5, or C421-AD8620. I consider C421 generally a better amp than T5, but T5 has better synergy with RE272.

iBasso T5 looks good and a balanced setup too. Is the price difference between iBasso T5 and Meier Stepdance justified ? If Stepdance is miles ahead then I better look for one in "for Sale" thread.

How is this one compared to Stepdance

I vastly prefer StepDance over T5, but if you are asking me which one makes much better financial sense - it is T5 no doubt. StepDance is a great amp, but it is not twice over as good as T5. However, I never regret paying for StepDance. It is still a very good arounder.

I only stick to T series from iBasso, no idea how others sound like.

Clieos: I love my DBAs, they just have that fantastic treble and highs and airyness that puts even my FXT-90s to shame. I love how the mids are just wonderfully in the middle, not forward nor recessed and their soundstage is perfect. I guess I really am a treblehead:) The FXT-90s just sound muddy and conjested to me, although I've seen so many positive reviews about it, from you, joker, the appreciation thread and even i2ehan just rated the SQ 4/5, but the DBAs absolutely thrash them for me. Im looking to upgrade the DBAs( if its even possible). Are there any clear upgrades from them ( airy, forward and aggressive treble, detalied, mids , extremely fast bass, extended highs like them )? Or should I just reshell them? How do the re272s scale compared to them. Not interested in ER4s. Thanks!
