I have no problem charing via external battery to ,what seems, to be 3.3mm centre pole positive USB adapter.

Well official Nokia ones are too big and I am assuming the unofficial ones I've got are 3.3mm as there is a very small difference in size. I havn't had a chance to follow up and check properly yet.......plus I have 2 USB power cables and half a dozen AC power supplies working.

So I received the 601 today. As commented, this guys is very musical, much to my liking. The only problem is the background hum when music isn't playing. Is there a way to fix this?

I find that bit annoying too..Especially the hum is more when you are charging the player.

Technically speaking, the battery in the 601 is very easy to replace. The only possible issue would be to find another one. Maybe the Hifiman firm has some so sell...?

hifiman just replied my email by saying 'we don't recommend you doing this' in reference to charging the player from an external batt. they didn't say why nor did they offer a work around solution.

So I took a trip to anythingbutipod and asked about the HM-601. They really dont like it over there lol. I think it sounds very good, and more than likely the people over there have never heard it.

Some (including me) love the 601, some hate it. It seems the people who dislike it congregate at abi while those who like it are more prevalent here.
Can we just leave it at that and talk about our personal impressions of the player rather than turning the thread into a battle?
