REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601
Dec 4, 2014 at 11:30 AM Post #1,426 of 1,534
Basically, the HM-601LE is a 602 without the USB DAC capability, rather than a 601. Therefore, it is very good value!

iMO, it can do a few things which my new HM-650 can't!

Can you mention a few of those things?

And any comparisons with other DAPs of a similar or a higher budget anyone?

Well officially the last of the 601LE's are now sold out.

Full, thick and yet transparent and fast midrange - like a good SET amp!

The HM-650 sounds lean by comparison (but has much better extension and definition at the frequency extremes).

SQ is best through the line out (which offers almost the full 2V). Use it with your Vali into the Paradoxes.... You won't be disappointed!

I use the 650 for orchestral music and the 601 for 50s and 60s Jazz.

Sometimes I take both DAPs on a trip...

BTW: in my opinion, it thrashes the DX50.

Much appreciated. I'll mainly be using it for my daily 3 hour commute along with my Tf10 (And soon the Havi Pro B3) {Haven't heard any comparisons about those two iem's too :|}

Need a 3.5mm to RCA cable too then to use it with my Vali.

I'll be using it through the lineout as indicated. Have a 32gb class 10 sandisk card o the way too. Should I rockbox it? The procedure seemed complicated though. The OF will be of the HM-602 am i right?

HM60X series have one of the best lineouts I've ever seen.

Hope so. LMUR is pretty slow to dispatch and DHL hasn't updated in 2 days too. Not in any hurry though.
Anything someone should know about 601LE?

Are you sure it can handle a class 10 SD card? I thought C4 was the limit...

A really good combination: HM-601LE / Elekit TU-HP01 / anything Grado...

I am using a 256GB Class 10 card from PNY. You have to reformat large cards to FAT32 as XFAT is not supported. I use Fat32Formatter to do this,

The exact card I got was.

http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Elite-Performance-256GB-Speed/dp/B00FF90EZM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417799607&sr=8-1&keywords=pny+256gb+sdxc

I can fit all my Albums on it in FLAC format :)

One other hint, I use Holos Tek FAT Sorter on the card after I upload new albums so the albums are alphabetical when you browse to SDCARD on my HM 601
