I dunno...
Your upgrade-itis may be causing you to make a mistake.

The Code-X still is superior to any other Planar its size .
Only the HEKV2 surpass it.

HEKV1 is different signature with more low end and laid back trebles.
Still, the HEK V1 is the more balanced can over other cans like LCD or Ether Flow.
Yet they all have different signatures and strengths so it comes down to your preference.

You needed to try Audeze pads on yours.
Even ZMF Ori & Eikon pads are superior to stock Code-X pads wich are actually Alpha pads..

Still enjoying my pair of Code-X headphones tremendously - one of the best planars on the market - the cleanliness of the sound is exceptional and it always feels good to listen to such pure tone on a pair of headphones.

This thread has been dead for 2 plus yrs. I just picked up a Code X3. Made with the HE-5 reissue. All I can say is wow! This is the best planar I have heard and owned. Detail is off the charts and the tonality as Jozurr said above is spot on. The tonality is so realistic. The sound of Beck's guitar and vocals on Lost Cause is simply perfect. I know this headphone isn't new, but I am super happy to have it in hand. Can't wait to explore it's charms and enjoy it for as long as I can.

Congrats. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of these around. They're still a real joy.

Thank you! The only thing I have noticed negatively is that they are making my ears hot. Is there a way to mitigate that?

I'm not too familiar with the X3. As such, I'm uncertain what pads Luis used. Are they velour, leather, or are they custom?

They feel like Ori pads to me. Sheepskin.

That would make some sense. Try rolling some pads.
I have a pair of brainwaves angled sheepskins as well. I have no clue how to change them. LOL... Do they just snap in and out? I am the least handy person on the planet.

Unless you opt to roll the Audeze pads which use adhesive rings.

They are much better. A smidge lighter without the hot spots in my ears. Sound is a bit softer too, not quite as aggressive. Toned the treble down a bit. Like it!

Hey Code X fans... thought I would post again to this thread. I have my Code X3's now for about 6 months and can say without question that I will never let these go. I just got my Cembalo Spring 1 back from the spa. It needed a tune up. New transistors that had blown and the volume pot needed a good cleaning. What returned was nothing short of bliss and my Code X are sounding even better than before. This headphone never ceases to amaze me. Soundstage depth and width, instrument placement, timbre, bass speed and midrange articulation are all top of the heap. I just had the pleasure of a/b testing the Code X against the Diana V2, Susvara and LCD-4z. All TOTL planars that my Spring 1 had no problem powering. Honestly, outside of the LCD-4z, which is my favorite headphone, the Code X sounded as good if not better than the rest. It isn't as ethereal as the Susvara, it isn't as resolving as the Diana V2, but for just pure listening enjoyment it bested them all. I just haven't heard any other planar that is as musically satisfying as the Code X. It does everything you could ask of a headphone. Plus, it is light and comfy. It definitely loves power, which my Spring 1 has in spades. Give it the right current and it will sing...

I have no idea how many Code X's are left in the world, but for those that have one, don't ever let it go. You won't find another planar at its price point that sounds as good. I am certainly not the most knowledgable head-fier, but what I can say is that what I have been exposed to leads me to believe that the Code X is one of those headphones we should all be lucky to share the same space for a moment of two...
