You can put Shure 1540 pads on the HP100 for a big step up in comfort.  And you can bend the HD600/650 to relieve the clamp.

Not saying you shouldn't go AKG, just saying that you should rule out headphones based on things that can be fixed with the physical unit.  The sound sound be your priority.

Good luck with your choice, they're all nice headphones!

I'd still rather the HP100 completely engulf my ears though, but still an option. I'm not getting a headphone where I have to bend the headband but the Senns are probably not best suited for my music anyway.. Mostly downtempo electronic/ambient, female folk singers, and hardcore/punk.

I recently bought FiiO E17K got my Q701's added some bass some treble. And well that is very interesting, the bass became just right and the treble removed the slight muffle along with giving it a nice warm sound...Comeparatively to what my essence one did add a whole bunch of brightness and sounded way worse for whatever reason, still can't put my finger on what it was. Just using the FiiO it gives a stone cold sound, but adding both bass and treble makes them magical.

Thanks for your opinion the pairing I'd love to hear what other amps work well with the Qs.

I quite enjoyed my Audio-GD NFB-15 with the Q701 for many many months.  The warmer, mid-centric sound signature really paired well with the Q.

Wish there was more info on that one, is 235 the correct price?

There is gobs of info about it.  Where are you looking?  lol

It's $250 new + shipping from CN.  You can usually find them around the classifieds for $200-225 if you're patient.

Anyone try one of those hand woven cloths from ebay that wrap around the headband part of a headphone and if it solves the AKG bump issue or not?

Yes, many folks in here have reported that it works great.  I myself use one of these:  smile.amazon.com/JJ-Cole-Collections-Strap-Graphite/dp/B0013IGZIE

I have not used my Q701 for some time since the HD800 and PM-2 are getting more used in the past few months. Now, I've paired it with  the Rok and OMG, I haven't heard the Q701 rocked this good! Listening to STP's Creep and Plush has never been this enjoyable. The energy is there whilst the treble is smooth and it slams really hard in the bottom! It's good that I held on on  this pair of cans!

Anyone here try the HM5 pads on the Q701? Looking at both the pleather and the velour replacement pads for the HM5 with the memory foam.

I think mounting them properly would be the real issue.  I've got both, but I've not bothered trying.  If you come up with a decent method, I'm game.
