I was about to buy a pair off the legendary Koss Portapro's. The only reason I wasn't was because of PX 100's. I then looked into it and was just about to buy the Portapro's as they they got more praise. As I was buying them I noticed the new PX 100-II's from sennheiser and was wondering if these are better than the Portapro's. Can anyone with experience please tell me what they prefer?

Thanks.

Despite only having listened to the Portapro and the PX100-II for a few seconds in electronics shops here in Japan, I would say that if I were you I would go for the PX100-II. I have owned the older PX100 for over 1 year and I appreciate them more and more.

I did some cross listening at the electronics store and compared the Portapro, PX100-II and the AKG K420 (which I also own) and to me the Portapro is too much "in your face" and my ears were not really given much room to breathe. The PX100 are almost the opposite (I do not remember the exact sound signature of the PX100-II so I compare to the PX100), quite airy and not as forward in the highs. To me it sounds like it reproduces more details than the AKG K420, which to me sound a bit like the Portapro except a bit less "in your face". But some people think that the PX100 sounds too "veiled", probably because of its treble roll off.

I have read comparisons between the Portapro and the PX100 saying that if you want to dig the music, the Portapro is the best good choice and if you want to listen to the music the PX100 is the best good choice.
It also depends on the music you listen to and your source. If your source is bright sounding, the highs might be too much with the Portapro. Then the PX100-II are better. If your source is not very bright sounding, the Portapros might be better.

About the PX100-II you could always search the forums. I remember reading about it. Here's a link to another site where they talk about the PX100-II.

A short review of the PX100-II by someone who has owned the PX100.

It depends on how you plan on using the headphones. If said phones are going to be an exercise headphone, than I would go with the portapro. Its fun, in your face and bassy sound will help keep you excited during your workout. If you plan on sitting still, maybe studying or engaging in some similar activity, then the px100 ii would be best.

I will be using them mainly in my house, occasionally walking around outside and maybe jogging. I also plan using them primarily with my iPod Touch and occasionally for movies. Also the Portapro's are half the price!

Personally, that would be the end of it for me. I do prefer the PX100s by a narrow margin but I wouldn't pay more than $5 over the Portas for them.

Well, if the Portapros are half the price I would also go with them even if I am a PX100 guy. I got my PX100 when a shop in Stockholm had a limited time sale. For the cheap price of around $15 I could get a pair of PX100 with only the plastic case. I suspected that it might be fake, but it turned out to be the real deal.

You can get the Portapros now and if you find a good deal on PX100-II later you can get them as well. You can never have too many headphones!

I will probably spend my cash on the Portapro's, then get the PX 100-II's later. Anyway which one does everyone think is more comfortable?

Just seen a price reduction, PX 100-II are now about £30 and Koss Portapro's are £20. Is it worth investing slightly more?

In the end I decided to buy the Portapro's. I will probably one day get the sennheiser's but I'm low on money and love the sound of no-questions asked limetime warranty!
