You can see in my signature I have several wireless DAC/amps. Might need to start experimenting using my phone as a DAP and connect stuff through USB to test some sounds
I could almost let my A306 go with the ZX300 winning for simplicity, signature, and the 4.4mm output. The issue comes from the occasions I might use it as a source
@8481 recently posted his Sony phone as a source with his high-end dongle. I've also gone back to using my Sony phone as my Android device for downloading, organizing, and distributing my music. One of the last modern phone brands that allows SD cards so I have my 1TB card in there.
So I am 1-UPing his setup with a bigger "dongle" lol. By the way, this combo sounds great!
After I took the pic i thought how stupid am I to use my phone as a source while I could just stream with R6III
I guess I had more the aesthetics of the picture in mind than anything else
Systemwide PEQ, MSEB and Audio Plugins of R6III combined with G5s Amp....do i need to loose any more words?

Where does the NW-ZX300 fall within the line? To me it's sort of something that's forgotten, I can't even put a finger on when it came out and what models it compared against. The wm1a and NW 55a are everywhere but this model seems a bit more lowkey.

I think you're right. 2017 from memory, probably it was up against the smaller A25, the Android ZX1/ZX2, and the previous ZX100 that I upgraded from. 4.4mm was new then and most rejected the idea of a new type of connector.
I'm not a technical listener, but to me the ZX300 is the classic old school warm Sony signature. The WM1A was totally different, the 1Z closer, but obviously a higher tier. I was worried that going back to an earlier dap I owned might bring disappointment, but I thoroughly enjoy it. The A55 came later and still seems to win over the ZX300, in fact I struggled to find any posts that favoured the ZX300 over any other Sony dap. Having a long history with their daps, they mostly opted for very low power to give long battery life, the ZX300 is possibly the smallest to provide the 4.4mm.
To answer your question, I think the ZX300 was a dap that introduced both the touchscreen and 4.4mm balanced connector to the mid-tier (non-Android) Sony users that might move up from the A series or upgrade their ZX100.
